Jordan High School
World Language Department
Department Goals
Teachers in the WL Department are focused on increasing instructional clarity. We have been working with the GRR lesson model and have been posting Learning Targets that answer the questions: What are we learning? Why are we learning this? and How will we know we’ve learned it/reached our Learning Goal/Intention/Target? Learning Targets will gradually weave in and consider newly published/released World Language Standards and will consider significant shifts in pedagogy and instructional methodology, as outlined in the CDE World Languages Standards Document and Framework.
Teachers in the WL Department will continue to promote Jordan PRIDE and college and career readiness by promoting Safe and Civil practices and by promoting school and pathway activities. In addition to the focus on Jordan Pride, teachers will promote Social-Emotional Learning by incorporating regular SEL activities, including check-ins and culture/climate building activities via their Canvas classroom. Some of the tools that may be used include class games sites like Kahoot, class bulletin board sites like Padlet, and the use of breakout rooms to promote cooperative learning and team-building. The team will look at ways to promote and incorporate social justice in the classroom and curriculum.
