All activities are free, but registration is requested. Workshops and virtual tours are for adult ed. only, but partners in the youth sector, community, and/or health/social services are welcome to participate in the keynotes.

Keynote Presentations

OPENING KEYNOTE: Tuesday, May 6 from 3:30 to 4:45 PM via Zoom

Jade Lawsane, ps.éd., M.Ed.

Jade Lawsane is a licensed psychoeducator who currently works as a Consultant for Autism at the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB), which houses the Centre of Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorder, providing leadership, expertise, best practices, and support to all anglophone school boards across the province. Jade is also a part-time teacher in the Special Education Techniques programs of Vanier College and Cégep Saint-Laurent.

Who You See Is Not Who I Am: Understanding Masking in Autism (RECORDING🔗)

Masking is a term used to describe individuals with autism who adopt social behaviours in order to better conform to societal norms and expectations. This workshop will begin by helping participants to better understand and identify masking. We will, then, examine the benefits and consequences of masking on the development on social participation, self-determination and mental health. Finally, concrete activities and practical strategies to address self-acceptance and self-identity will be presented.

Lucie Tremblay

Lucie Tremblay is part of the national support team for complementary educational services. She has over 12 years of experience teaching adults with special needs. Now a member of the national mandates team, Lucie supports training centres in the English-language school boards.

Une présentation de La Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle

RECORDING🔗

La Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle (SQDI) regroupe plus d’une centaine d’organisations membres dans toutes les régions du Québec. Elle agit à titre de porte-parole auprès de diverses instances politiques et publiques ou auprès des acteurs sociaux. Elle défend les droits des personnes ayant une déficience intellectuelle et ceux de leur famille. Durant cette présentation, nous vous présenterons les actions portées par la SQDI pour favoriser l’inclusion des personnes ayant une déficience intellectuelle dans toutes les sphères de la société.

Olivier Guérin

Olivier Guérin travaille à la Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle (SQDI) depuis septembre 2022. Il est Responsable de la vie associative et des relations avec les membres. Il s’occupe également des dossiers en Éducation. Sa vision d’une société inclusive est celle où chaque individu a la possibilité d’apprendre, de s’épanouir et de contribuer, peu importe ses capacités.

Noémie Téchède

Noémie est coordonnatrice des communications à la Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle où elle travaille depuis près de trois ans. Convaincue que la communication joue un rôle central dans la participation sociale des personnes marginalisées, elle travaille à rendre l'information plus accessible, claire et mobilisatrice.

AM SESSION: Join Julie Robitaille (EC), Jennifer Campbell (EMSB), Matthew Kennedy (LBPSB) for an overview of the new Social Participation (SPC) Program of Study, an introduction to the resources created by the EC Working Group, followed by a deep-dive into the mandatory course "SPC-Z-101."

PM SESSION: Jennifer, Amanda Dowbyhuz (LBPSB), Elias Tanbe (EMSB), Julian Verboomen (LBPSB), Michael Werenchuk (NFSB), and Tanya Lo Bianco (EMSB) will launch the newly designed QCS(V)I Network's website.
