This system operates using fiber-optic cables. For your safety, DO NOT look directly into any of the cables. Please also ensure that they are not bent or cut.
This instrument automatically collects spectra using an absorbance range of 350-2500nm, and is unable to exceed these limits.
Data collection on this spectrometer is extremely quick, so there is not currently a calendar for this tool. If you are a trained user and find this becomes a problem, let the staff contact know.
The ASD UV-Vis Spectrometer collects absorbance in the range of 350nm-2500nm. This fiber-optic system has a very fast data collection time (typically <20 seconds) and automatically collects spectra across its full range. This instrument is customized and we offer both a standard cuvette (and film) holder with an external light source as well as a muglight for diffuse reflection.
A: Look up! The little black box that holds the film insert for the cuvette holder is almost always stored above the instrument when it's not in use.
A: You most likely clicked on an area of the software that is not a button. When this happens, the software automatically closes. You'll need to restart the software and rerun your background sample before collecting your data.
A: 1) Be certain that the light source you are using is connected. 2) Trace the fiberoptic cables from your light source to ensure it is attached to the detector. This is the almost always the problem. The other potential issue is that you forgot to turn on the detector, so check that, too!
