The 2026 Scientific Leadership and Management Skills Course (SLMS) will take place on the following three days*:

Tuesday, October 20 | Via Zoom | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Tuesday, October 27 | In-person at the Brower Center | 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Tuesday, November 3 | In-person at the Brower Center | 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

The Scientific Leadership and Management Skills Course (SLMS) is designed for senior postdocs who are preparing to lead research groups in academia or industry. The program is delivered over three sessions, each held one week apart. The first session is a virtual half-day, while the remaining two sessions take place in person at the Brower Center in downtown Berkeley. Each session features a morning didactic presentation by a remote guest speaker, followed by interactive breakout discussions and a second didactic presentation.

The SLMS Course exposes participants to Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a tool that is frequently used to help individuals understand their own communication preferences and how they interact with others. The course will also include interactive discussions, case studies, and role-playing and teach:

- - fostering a welcoming lab environment
  - leading and motivating others
  - creating a positive lab culture
  - difficult conversations, negotiation and managing conflict
