The Scientific Leadership and Management Skills Course (SLMS) was designed for senior postdocs and junior investigators as a 3-week course to help bolster your experience in leadership styles, people management, and conflict resolution. The course will occur over three days, one week apart. Each session will include a didactic session with a speaker followed by an interactive breakout group period for the last hour. Speakers will be live-streamed to each physical campus location.
The SLMS Course exposes participants to Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a tool that is frequently used to help individuals understand their own communication preferences and how they interact with others. The course will also include interactive discussions, case studies, and role-playing and teach:
fostering a welcoming lab environment
leading and motivating others
creating a positive lab culture
difficult conversations, negotiation and managing conflict
