EXPECTED IMPACTS
Traffic
There may be occasional one-lane closures on Lawrence Road near the ALS to accommodate construction equipment.
Follow all posted signage and obey flagger directions.
Noise and vibration
There will be periods of vibration due to construction efforts, which may affect buildings in close proximity to the site.
The project team has met with researchers to discuss schedules, communication, and mitigation to reduce vibration impacts as much as possible.
Utility outage
There is a planned utility outage affecting Buildings 2 and 23 beginning on Thursday, July 11, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Buildings 2 & 23 - Planned electrical outage
Buildings 2 & 23 - No cooling system
B2 - Chilled water system shutdown
Building 2 - No treated water for cooling
LCW not impacted
Occupants are not allowed in buildings during electrical outages
SCHEDULE
The schedule is subject to change without notice.
December 2024 (during ALS shutdown): Large equipment installation
February 2024: Projected completion date
OVERVIEW
The new building 2 (B2) cooling plant is a mechanical system upgrade designed to improve the reliability of B2 cooling and science operations. The project will build three new cooling towers to provide cooling water to the chilled water plant and process cooling water loop. Building this additional plant will also relieve demand on the B37 cooling plant, which supports several buildings, including the ALS.
PAST VIBRATION TEST ON NOVEMBER 7
The project team conducted a vibration test to determine the effect of construction work on research in adjacent buildings on November 7, 2022.
What the project team needs from building tenants:
Tenants in buildings 2, 6, 15, 26, and 80 were asked to work normally during the test, and to note any effect that might be due to construction vibration, including time stamp, details, and how it affected work.
