Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Environmental and Geosciences

2019 and 2020

A Tutorial at the Annual AGU Fall Meeting

About

This tutorial brings together geoscientists and environmental scientists for interactive sessions, discussions and hands-on exercises on state of the art machine learning and deep learning methods and best practices to address pressing problems in environmental and geosciences. The sessions cover both theory and practice, with emphasis on the latter. Attendees develop an understanding of what machine learning and deep learning are, what types of problems they are good for, and how to choose, build, train, and deploy (at scale) machine learning and deep learning models for geoscientific and environmental applications. The tutorial also includes a discussion with a panel of experts on challenges and opportunities of applying machine learning and deep learning to environmental and geosciences.
