JRG70: Workshop celebrating the scientific contributions of John R. Gilbert

John R. Gilbert, currently Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara, has made numerous contributions to sparse matrix computations, parallel computing, graph algorithms. He is considered one of the founders of Combinatorial Scientific Computing, an interdisciplinary research area in which combinatorial algorithms are used to solve problems in computational science and engineering.  This one day workshop will celebrate his scientific contributions during his long illustrious career. 

The technical part of the program (scroll down for it) will run 8:30-5pm at the ESB 1001's multipurpose room. There will be a dinner in the evening in the Santa Barbara area (Harry's Plaza Cafe).  A few additional activities are:

• We will also organize some Santa Barbara activity on Saturday during the day for the guests or companions of the out of town guests, and provide transportation; 

• We are planning to offer a breakfast get-together Sunday morning for visitors from out of town; We would like people to RSVP (to Ilse Gilbert at ilse.gilbert@gmail.com) if they are interested in coming  to the breakfast; 

• We have request for anyone willing to contribute photos of John and colleagues to be shown during the dinner, to send them to Ilse Gilbert.

• Harbor View Inn (Santa Barbara)

Please note that though UCSB is technically a Santa Barbara address, Goleta hotels are physically closer to the university. 

Santa Barbara airport (SBA) is very close to the venue, if you can find flights that work for your schedule to SBA.  If you can't fly to SBA, driving from LAX is a reasonable option and takes about 2 hours.
