Description of the workshop:
The goal of the series is to better understand how structural biology and imaging methods can advance research related to the DOE BER missions (https://science.osti.gov/ber), especially in combination with large-scale genomics studies at the Joint Genome Institute, high throughput functional genomics studies at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory, and DOE’s leadership computing facilities.
These interactive workshops will bring together a diverse group of investigators and DOE BER program managers to exchange ideas and approaches for studying and manipulating the impact of microbes and plants on environmental systems and energy production. Strategies will be explored to expand the capabilities and research focus areas offered through the inter-facility User Programs to meet the interests of science communities in BER-mission-relevant areas. Scientists who are primarily involved in BER programs will give presentations, after which participants will break out into groups for discussion. The outcome of this workshop will be a report that will be shared with program managers and the BER research community on how best to utilize structural biology and imaging user facilities in support of BER funded research.
