Stewardship Committee

The Engineering Stewardship Committee is an employee-led group dedicated to advancing Berkeley Lab’s stewardship principles within the Division. The committee supports Engineering Division employees by fostering a culture grounded in our core stewardship principles.

Engineering Division Organizational Stewardship Committee Charter (ESC)

The Engineering Division brings together a multidisciplinary collection of people, skills, backgrounds, experiences, and expertise that are critical to executing big science and make invaluable contributions to advancing fundamental research. The purpose of this committee is to support the Division in creating an environment that empowers its workforce to do their best work and authentically contribute to our community.

The work of the Engineering Organizational Stewardship Committee (OSC) is grounded in the Berkeley Lab Principles of People Stewardship:

• Respect: We depend on contributions from many people, disciplines, and roles to unlock the potential of individuals and teams. Each of us takes responsibility for the well-being, safety, and belonging of others in our communities.

• Innovation: We believe our success depends on the free exchange of ideas, the willingness to think differently, the freedom to take risks, the agility to respond to evolving needs, and the ambition to make an impact. We promote and protect these characteristics of our Lab and our people.

Our tradition of inclusion dates to our founding director E.O. Lawrence, who pioneered the practice of team science for large, complex scientific challenges. 

As an Engineering Organizational Stewardship Committee:

• We advise the Engineering Division Director on organizational stewardship values and issues.

• We collaborate with LBNL-wide resources for stewardship and belonging to align efforts and share best practices.

• We partner with Lab-wide Employee Resource Groups (ERG) and Stewardship groups.

• We solicit feedback on the organizational culture and climate from the Division at large.

• We create and support programs to support employees in their professional growth. 

• We document and disclose goals, activities, and accomplishments.

• We abide by Committee rules and guidelines.
