You will receive your login information through the email you used to register this workshop.
Notice we have 4 virtual machines (orca-als[1-4]), and please only login to the one you are assigned.
All the password are case sensitive.
If you are a Mac or Linux user, you can use the terminal APP to ssh to our server
$ ssh [username]@[VMname].lbl.gov
Like the example below
Once you login, you can use the following command to change your password.
$ passwd
Please remember your new password once you change it.
If you are a PC user, and use xshell or other terminal APP (such as putty, xwin32, xming), please use [VMname].lbl.gov as your host name, like below
You can choose to remember your user name and password.
Once login, please use the list command to make sure you have the ALSWorkshop directory.
$ ls
That directory includes all the files we will need for the hands on session.
You may do the same set up for xftp if you want to use that to transfer files.
Because we cannot meet in person, we send out the password through emails, which is not a safe manner. However, it is OK in our case because you are working on virtual machines just for this workshop.
Thus, please keep in mind that others may have access to your directory, and your assigned disk space is for this workshop only. Please DO NOT save any personal files on the server. You may end up losing them once the workshop is over, as the VMs will be dismissed.
