Not Ready To Work = Not Authorized to Work Onsite, please complete all weekly requirements.
Good To Go = Authorized to Come Onsite, please maintain social distancing, stay safe!
If you aren't scheduled/approved to come onsite but need to drop off or pick up something, please arrange this with another worker who is scheduled to come onsite that day. You may meet outside Blackberry Gate (if working on the Hill) or outside the building (if going to Donner Hall or Potter Street).
Up-to-date information is also available on the Lab’s COVID-19 Information Site
You must badge in with your own badge. If you do not have it with you, you will need to retrieve it before coming onsite. Badge-ins are tracked and reported to the Lab and are an important part of managing our site density.
Remember:
Do not enter the building with or behind someone who has badged in.
Do not ask someone to let you in.
Do not let anyone else in.
If you or someone in your group is working on a project with a lead PI from outside the Biosciences Area or at a non-BSBK facility (e.g., ESE, IGB, Earth & Environmental Sciences Area, Advanced Light Source, etc.), site access must be approved and coordinated by both Areas and noted on the corresponding BSA Ops Center schedule. This is necessary to ensure your badge-in is counted appropriately and so that building density can be managed accurately.

Appointments:
Badge appointments are available for new hires or for replacement badges. The Badge Office in Building 65A is open, located by the flagpoles up the hill from Blackberry Gate. There will be two open badging stations available, one inside the main entrance and one at the rear entrance of the building. Please go to whichever station is open when you arrive.
Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis for those approved during each pilot. As soon as you know you need a badge, make an appointment by emailing siteaccess@lbl.gov, sign up for an appointment.
Newly hired employees with an in-person I-9 appointment will also be available to make an appointment.
Walk-ins are not permitted at this time for the safety of the staff.
Bring a current government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. You will need to return your expired badge at the time of your new badge appointment. If you also wish to obtain a parking permit, you must bring a valid driver's license.
Hours:
During the next phase of the Lab’s Transition Mode, employees deemed essential to the operations of the Lab, the Badge Office will be open by appointment during the hours below only: Mondays: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Wednesdays: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Fridays: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Badge Check:
If your badge is deactivated there may be a few causes:
1) GERT expired
2) change in your employment (ex. term to career)
3) badge expired (check the expiry date on your badge).
If 2) or 3) occurs, you need to make an appointment at the badge office on the hill to obtain a new badge.
Please contact siteaccess@lbl.gov. Your supervisor will need to certify that you need a new badge and that you are working on an approved project onsite.
If your GERT training has expired, your badge will be deactivated and you cannot access the Lab. Please ensure you are up to date with Lab training prior to coming onsite, which you can do by logging on to Berkeley Lab Training, and follow the Lab’s COVID controls, no matter your vaccination status, including wearing a face cover at all times and maintaining six feet of distance between yourself and others.

While waiting for your badge appointment, you will need to continue teleworking. For new hires: in addition to obtaining a badge, you must complete all your online training prior to working onsite
*NOTE: This procedure is for adding badge access only. BSBK Access schedule requests still need to go through BSBK-AccessRequest@lbl.gov.
The Lab has a new badge management system that allows badge-holders to go online to add additional building access to their badge. The Security & Emergency Services Division has been working on this project for several years as one step in a multi-step plan to improve security and safety at Lab sites.
To request access, you will need to log in before following these instructions:
Select “Area Request”.
Look up the area you want to access.
Click “Add” on the right side of the area name.
You may add multiple areas in a single request by searching for the applicable areas and clicking “Add” for each of them
Some areas are authorized by multiple divisions and will have a self-service listing for each division. Add just ONE area, and choose the one with the division you work for or that is most applicable for the work you will be doing in this area
Click “Done” on the top right, and you’ll be directed to the request form.
Type in your reason for the request in the appropriate field.
Select “Submit Request” at the top right of the page.
Your request will be routed to the area’s authorizer. After it has been approved, the access will be automatically added to your badge.
You can check the status of your requests on the homepage under “My Requests”, which lists all of your requests that have not yet been approved and applied.
If you need sitewide access, please review this list of access areas and determine which, if any, is appropriate for you.
If you do not see the area you are requesting in the self-service list, please email siteaccess@lbl.gov.
Additional resources and instructional videos can be found on our new Shared Drive.
If you are an area authorizer (i.e. a SAM), you have access to the Security Access Managers Resources Google Drive.
Weekly Health Symptom Self-Check
Your weekly health symptom self-check response form for each workweek must be submitted after Sunday at 12:01 a.m. for each week you are approved to come on site; the self check process resets each week on Sunday regardless of when the person submits the self check the week prior. You should complete your health symptom self check before your first entry of a Lab site for each workweek.
Symptomatic Individuals

There are tables with cleaning supplies located near each entrance and near the atrium doors on the second floor landing.
Surface sanitizer is to be used to clean your work surfaces. Please use the bottle to apply sanitizer to a towel for surface cleaning and leave the spray bottle on the table. If sanitizing wipes are present, please take one but leave the container. Supplies are limited.
Tissue boxes are for personal use. Please take one box. Do not open tissue boxes and leave them on the table.
Hand sanitizer. Please take one bottle for personal use onsite. Please do not take hand sanitizer for home use.
Safety glasses. If needed please use the safety glasses on the table. Although they have been cleaned, please sanitize before use. Return them to the guard desk. Do not return them to the table or place them outside the lab doors. There are also lens cleaner/anti-fog single use towelettes available.
Masks are available for lab personnel and vendors that have forgotten to bring a face covering. If you need a mask there are some cloth and disposable masks at the front desk. If Asina is not present please contact your building manager.
All atrium doors are security and fire doors and must remain closed at all times.
The conference rooms have been designated single occupancy mask break rooms where you can safely take a break and remove your mask. We ask that you reserve the room using the calendar. Create a meeting and invite the room (977-181A-CR(16), 977-248-CR(25), 977(CR)-153(20) ). Conference room 223 has no calendar designation but can also be used. Please sanitize the surfaces before and after use. Cleaning materials are available in each conference room.
Office rooms 139, 194, 219 and 261 have also been designated single occupancy mask break areas. Please close and lock the door while in use and sanitize the surfaces before and after use. Cleaning material is in each room.
Please keep the doors to the designated break areas open when you leave to let others know they are available to be used.
Kitchens are to be used for food storage and preparation only and have been designated single occupancy. No loitering or eating in the kitchens. Please sanitize all used surfaces and appliances. DO NOT spray disinfectant directly on appliances. Use the towels to wipe them down.
All multi-use restrooms in the atrium have had adjacent stalls and sinks taped off. Max occupancy is 3 people. Please leave all restroom doors opened with a doorstop when not in use. A closed door is a warning that someone is in the room and to enter cautiously. Cleaning supplies to sanitize used surfaces are in each restroom on the taped off center sink.
The single occupancy restrooms have a table with surface sanitizer outside the two rooms.
Masks must be worn when using a cubicle. Please be sure you are at least 6 feet away from another person in the cubicle areas. We ask that you use the cubicles only when absolutely necessary. Any work done onsite is limited to activities that cannot be accomplished via telework.
Research Groups / PIs are responsible for providing sanitizing solutions (such as 70% Ethanol) for sanitizing surfaces and equipment in their own lab work areas. The surface sanitizers provided by the Berkeley Lab are for common and office areas.
All lab entrance doors are fire doors and must remain closed at all times.
All Stairways are designated single person use. If there is someone using a stairway, please wait for that person to be clear before using it yourself.
Pickups and deliveries from the Hill continue as normal.
If there is a delivery that needs a signature, a direct delivery to Potter, or a scheduled vendor. Asina is now back at the guard desk M-F 8AM to 12PM. For any special needs contact your building manager.
If you need to pick up your mail and/or a package, and are not scheduled to enter the building, you can contact your building manager to arrange for your mail or package to be brought outside for you.
