Bruce Cohen and I are hiring a joint Molecular Foundry postdoc to work on development of Infrared Force Microscopy. Bringing together expertise at the Molecular Foundry, Columbia, and the Joint Genome Institute, we're building a new microscope to leverage the team's discovery of Avalanching Nanoparticle (ANP) force sensors for unprecedented imaging of biological forces at the nanoscale: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08221-2
IFM utilizes novel ANP probes to measure crucial intracellular and extracellular forces in microbes, such as turgor pressure and forces within biofilms. This position is responsible for the biological application of ANPs in microbial systems, including ANP targeting and incorporation in live cells, and collaboration in imaging experiments.
