We are so excited for your child to join our Kindergarten Crew! During the summer, you should start preparing your child for the start of school. Below is a checklist some of the skills that your child should have as they enter Kindergarten.
While academic knowledge is great, there are other skills that are also beneficial as children enter school. Please practice self help skills so your child is ready to be independent in the classroom Children should be able to use the bathroom independently and wash their own hands. They should be able to put on and zip their jacket. Practice opening their own snacks/lunches - you can even practice eating within a set time frame. Snack time is usually no more than 15 minutes and lunch is no more than 30 minutes. When packing snacks and lunches make sure they are easy for your child to open independently and eat in that amount of time.
Current trends in education have placed increased academic demands on children at earlier ages. We strive to make learning fun and engaging as we offer children hands on opportunities to grow and meet the academic standards. While academics are important, one of the most important elements of Kindergarten remains the social emotional growth of the child. Children will learn how to navigate the world, work collaboratively and become independent. As the poem says, All I Really Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten!
See you in the Kindergarten Crew!!
