Alvin was born September 1, 1956 as the second child of John and Esther Hunter. He completed high school at Okolona High School, Okolona, Arkansas and went on to finish at Red River Vo-Tech with a diploma in bookkeeping. He holds a diploma in “Pastoral Studies” from the Sunday School Publishing Board Division of Christian Education Accreditation and Credentials in Nashville, Tennessee. He was called into the ministry in 1977 and set under pastoral tutorage from Rev. H. R. Green, who was then, the Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Okolona, Arkansas. He received training in ministry from Rev. G. H. Jones who was the Pastor of 1st Baptist Church, Okolona, Arkansas who was then the president of the Southwest District Congress of Christian Education. After four years as an evangelist and tutorage studies in ministry and biblical standards, Alvin became the pastor of the Bright Star Baptist Church, Schaal, Arkansas in October of 1981 and remained there for the next 11 years. During that time he was anointed and excelled in teaching. He then became the Vice President of the Congress of Christian Education in the Little River District Baptist Association. In 1992 the Lord moved him from Bright Star as pastor; and shortly afterwards, the Lord led him to Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church, Hope, Arkansas where he has served as Senior Pastor for the past 23 years. Alvin served as Vice President of the Southwest District Congress of Christian Education from 2008-2014, and was elected as president of the District Congress in July 2014. He also serves as President of Section 2 in the Southwest District Association, he has served as a teacher of Baptist doctrine in the SWD congress and the SWD Music, Worship and Arts Auxiliary. He is also currently serving in the Arkansas Consolidated State Congress of Christian Education as a teacher and as the webmaster for the convention. He serves on the Executive Board of the Southwest District Association and in the President's cabinet of the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention.
