Big Chill isn't just a name. It's a nod to our way of living a life full of curiosity and adventure, embracing all the world has to offer. Learn more about the brand and where it all began.
The Big Chill Brand
The Big Chill Brand is about not taking life too seriously… slowing down to enjoy… and being present. Our approach is to connect with people whom seek this lifestyle through different concepts that use the sensory channels of food, beverage, hospitality, activities, music, and atmosphere to create locations that connect to the Live Chill Lifestyle.
Not surprisingly, our locations have to be in spots that embrace ‘Live Chill’. We look for opportunities to connect with surroundings that allow for that mentality to flourish. Having a perspective or view that allows that message to be driven home is core to accomplishing a place that allows for our guests to embrace the moment. We find these locations around earth’s natural beauty mostly (Beach, Harbors, Mountains, Vistas, and Landscapes) and occasionally on the man made streets.
Our commitments to the Big Chill Brand are to be:
→ Casual (Chill)
→ High Quality
→ Maintain a Level of Uniqueness in environment
→ Location Driven: our surroundings inspire us
→ Steeped in authenticity or tied to old school/vintage (Little grit to it, not perfect)
→ Upper Casual Segment Value (Not Ultra High End)
Simply put… Our Why: Life’s Too Busy, Just Live CHILL!
Big Chill Backstories
Our locations tell the overall Big Chill story: we create opportunities to connect to our environment as reminders to live in the moment. Each of our Big Chill businesses support this overall goal through their individual, unique environments. Part of our uniqueness is each having our own history to share. These backstories are the backbone of our history that we use to design, activate, and celebrate at each location… tying them together, but being captivatingly different at the same time.
Harkening back to the days of old school East Coast Beach life, Beach Club plays off its namesakes to welcome the public to the beach with amenities to embellish the experience. Offering an F&B outlet, views for miles, bathhouses, and activities sets the stage for a great day in the sun and memorable sunsets in the evening. Offering experiences tied to beach life for further enjoyment of this outdoor experience, with DE State Parks as our backdrop, is creating an everlasting & authentic moment.
Inspired by the 1970’s Surf Shack bar on the side of PCH 1 in Southern California, the Cantina revels in those times where community was built around those “extreme sports'' and the people who embraced them and the lifestyle that came with surfing, skating, and beach life in general. During those times, there was a bit of the “Wild West” mentality for the frontiersman who embraced these posts that were not so mainstream. Cantina is a place where the cold drinks don't stop flowing, and locals and visitors gather and feel like family.
A wandering soul will quickly find themselves on the Intracoastal as it is, and has been, a route for those in the know, for adventurers & boatsmen to have safe passage between the North down to the Caribbean and beyond. The Intracoastal delivers a local nautical foundation with heavy influences from more exotic ports in every direction. The mix creates a global-feel center for people to gather, relax, and share stories of adventures throughout the region and further afar.
Big Chill Island House
From the team behind Crooked Hammock Brewery, the next chapter in Barefoot landing is a waterfront restaurant & bar with a rooftop perch perfect for sunsets. The Island House is a casual and tasteful gathering place with lots of secrets to reveal and surprises in store. You'll be able to count on a menu that is island inspired from the entire East Coast with influences from around the world. Beverages will run the gamut with hand-crafted cocktails, a smart wine list, and a plethora of beers.
Historical Background: Derived from the long history of merchant trade between the Caribbean and Carolinas, Big Chill Island House combines tropical influence with an inherent nautical foundation being harbored just inside the Carolina Coast on the Intracoastal. Historically, a successful merchant trader hosted many important people at their homes, requiring an environment that was both comfortable and splendid with influences from the trade destinations being present in design.
For design inspiration, we are built on the premise of successful Merchant Trader Captain Boddington, having traveled the world in his ship based trading company, bringing back warm weather inspired themes to decorate his nautical based home, The Fairweather House. Designed to impress, it offers both grandeur and intimacy. His eclectic, but fashionable tastes offer a room to room exploration of fun styles and design that beg you to ask , “I wonder what’s next?”
Setting The Scene: Big Chill Island House is an interactive photo album of a modern adventurer’s lifetime worth of stories & inspirations. Embodying a weekend getaway, Island House sits on a perch that casts an inviting and mysterious light. To see it is to seek the untold experiences within.
Inside Island House, each room is a different chapter of our host’s story or a reflection of a unique journey from a life well-lived. Our host’s unique eye and taste is projected on the furniture that’s been chosen and the art that’s been curated. The master of this domain can afford all manner of designer accents, but that’s not what’s steering the ship. Our guiding light is the unforgettable memory that’s connected to each souvenir, flavor and vista captured in the collage of Island House.
The spirit of Island House is one of openness to something new to you. It doesn’t force you out of your comfort zone but rather, it tempts you to explore and imagine yourself somewhere different.
Island House Sentiments & Differentiators:
It’s easy to live in the moment at Island House…
There are other restaurants on the Intracoastal, but none that feel like this.
We're a breath of fresh air in the crowded hospitality scene of Myrtle Beach.
There are other places to hang out near the waterway, but none that combine flavors from the Northeast down to the Caribbean.
Boaters live on the channel but they’ve never gotten this view.
The fun that comes out of taking a beat.
Momentary magic! Guests of Island House can live in whatever moment the occasion calls for. Whether you're a family, a couple on a date night, a crew of buddies looking to grab drinks, or somewhere in the middle, we've got a perfect space to suit all needs.
