Frequently Asked Questions

What will a typical day look like for my child?

Students will be scheduled to participate in live online instruction for core content areas: English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and special areas. English Language Arts and Math instruction will be provided daily. Science and Social Studies will be provided on a staggered schedule (Social Studies is integrated into ELA in Grades K-3). Special area classes will also be provided every day.

Students will receive live instruction from their teacher via Google Meets and Nearpod. A typical schedule for each lesson will be the following:

  1. Live Instruction (up to 45 minutes)

  2. Independent Practice (10-15 minutes)

  3. Quiz (5-10 minutes)

  4. Reflection (2-5 minutes)

Will I be able to access recordings of live instruction for future reference?

Yes, while students will have a scheduled live instruction time for each content area, each lesson will also be recorded and posted for students to view and complete assignments by a designated due date. Students will have an opportunity to participate in the same activities throughout the recorded lesson as the students that participate in real-time.

What materials will my child need to participate in distance learning?

The district will provide a Chromebook to all students participating in the distance learning program. Curriculum programs also have a consumable workbook that will be provided to students. This additional resource aligns to lessons that vary based on the grade level. The district will provide a list of basic school supplies, such as dry-erase markers, for students to use at home.

Will my child still participate in their home school's signature program?

Yes. Your child will remain enrolled in their home school while receiving online instruction from that school’s teachers. Similar lessons will be provided.

How will gifted service be provided?

The gifted coaches will provide enrichment resources in a Google Classroom. Gifted coaches will virtually check-in with identified students during a scheduled time.

How will my child be provided with 1:1 or small group support?

1:1 or small group support will be scheduled using Google Meet, the district’s approved teleconference application.

How will attendance be tracked?

Teachers will have a question in each Nearpod lesson to track daily attendance that will be recorded in Synergy.

How can I support my child in the distance learning?

Parents of distance learning students will participate in a webinar on the first day of school. Parents will learn about the format, setting up accounts, accessing Google Classroom and Meet, the materials needed, grading, and receiving tech support.

How often will parents receive feedback on student progress?

Parents can sign up to receive weekly email summaries about their child’s progress in Google Classroom. These summaries will allow you to review missing work, upcoming work, and classroom activity.
