Our school has a diverse selection of styles ranging from Y2K, trendy, grunge, and other alternative looks. Some people dress to emulate their favorite movie star while some people have a style that’s totally their own. The brands you shop also shape what your daily outfit looks like. Whatever your style is, it can show part of your personality as a way to express yourself.
Some people like wearing whatever is in fashion at the moment. Trends can be found on celebrities, social media, or even your friends. Vivi Felber in 8th grade loves the brands Hollister, Cotton On, and Windsor. She wears trendy sporty clothes with lots of color. Eva Whittemore in 8th grade loves Nike, Adidas, and Hollister for a cute sporty look. Mercer Eagen in 7th grade loves Hollister, Edikted, and Abercrombie. She says her style is chill and cute. 8th grader Lucas Johnson likes Nikes, Essentials, and Stussy. He wears sporty street clothes that are comfortable and wearable. Steve Hernandez, our student body president, likes the brands Cotton On, Hollister, and Nike. He describes his style as comfortable and athletic.
What you wear is the first thing people see when they meet you, and it can be a part of how you present yourself to the world. There are also days when what you wear can even show how you are feeling. When someone’s feeling sad, they may wear comfy clothes and a hoodie. Some outfits can just be whatever you find in your drawer and might be completely different from your personality. A 2012 study from Northwestern University found that wearing certain clothes has a tangible effect on the wearer’s psychology and performance. That means it can change how you feel or even how you act!
Many people also dress to look like their friends. When walking around school, you can see similar patterns in the way that people that hang out together dress. For instance, some groups prefer to wear dark clothing, while others tend to go more vibrant. Also, some groups prefer to be comfortable and wear sweatpants, while others prefer to wear tight fitting, athletic clothes every day.
Fashion doesn't always have to be about who you surround yourself with, it can also be about standing out. Many people dress differently than others to show who they are as an individual. If someone really likes a certain band or musical group, they may like to wear a lot of merch from them. Also, if someone really loves a certain color, they may lean more towards that color in their everyday clothing.
