This week in Math, we’re wrapping up Module 1 and all of our work with place value. Students will create a Place Value Choice Project to practice and review what we’ve learned before our Module 1 Assessment this Friday. At home, students can use their notes to review Lessons 1 to 19, including rounding, multiplying and dividing by 10, and adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Ask your student which Place Value project they chose to work on!
In ELA, we’re continuing to strengthen our Personal Narrative work. After using sensory details and stretching our sentences to give readers a clearer picture of our experiences, students will begin developing, editing, and typing their stories this week.
In Science, we’re continuing our work with Energy Conversions. Students are investigating why the electrical system in our fictional town of Ergstown is especially vulnerable to blackouts as they continue their work as systems engineers.

This week in Math, we’re continuing our work with place value in Eureka Math. Students will have a short check-in quiz this Friday. In ELA, we’re building up to writing personal narratives. Students are practicing how to bring a story to life with sensory details and dialogue, and we’ve written quick “flash drafts” using our "small seed" moments. Students are also working on their i-Ready assessments in ELA and Math this week. Slow and steady!
In Social Studies, our California History Museum brochures are nearly finished. They are due this Thursday. All work is being done in class using our IMPACT California History textbook.
Another big thank you to all who have sent in supplies for our classroom, including goodies from our Amazon Wishlist. Every little thing helps our days run smoothly and helps make Room 10 a cozy, engaging place to learn. I’m so grateful for your support!

We had a wonderful first day, and I heard everyone had a great end to their week with Ms. Avila! Last week, we focused on beginning to learn the routines that will help our class run smoothly. I'm excited for our first full week together!
This week, we start our first units of fourth grade! In ELA, we’ll introduce personal narratives, and in Math, we’ll begin our work with place value. We will also begin our first Social Studies unit by learning about California's regions and creating infographic posters. Students will start to take their beginning-of-year i-Ready assessments in Reading and Math this week as well.
Thank you to everyone who has already returned the forms sent home last week! The front office deadline for this is Friday, August 28.
Room 10 is also looking for a Parent Representative for this school year. If you are interested in taking on the role, please send me an email.
And finally, thank you so much for the supplies and classroom donations that have already made their way to us. They have been such a help as we get our classroom ready for the year! There are still a few items we could use on our Room 10 Amazon Wishlist for anyone who is able to contribute.
