Welcome to our music program!

To my students, I am thrilled to have each and every one of you in class and look forward to an exciting and rewarding year. Together we will work towards building a tradition of musical excellence through responsibility, respect, commitment and dedication. I am confident that Obama Music Department will reach new levels of success!

Parents, I will do everything possible to ensure a successful music education for your child. I am very excited to get to know each and every one of you and more excited for your children to be a part of the Music Program at Barack Obama Global Prep Academy.

Bio:

This is Mr. Alcantar’s third year at Barack Obama Global Preparatory Academy. He is an active freelance musician and educator in Southern California. He has directed music ensembles (Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs) for the last 12 years ranging from Kindergarten to the University level. Currently Mr. Alcantar is also a Teaching Artist and Conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s  signature 'El Sistema' program, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) at the Heart of Los Angeles Site  (HOLA). He  is devoted to working with underserved communities and strives to bring quality music education to communities in need. Mr. A is a proud graduate of LAUSD and  holds both his Bachelor of Music in Winds Performance/Education and a Master of Music in Conducting from California State University, Northridge. Mr. Alcantar is a proud member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor’s Society, National Association for Music Education, California Band Director Association, Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. Mr. Alcantar is currently the Vice President of Los Angeles Secondary Music Teachers Association and the Treasurer for California Music Educator's Association Southwestern Section.
