Course Description:
8th Grade English Language Arts is a class that involves high level writing and critical thinking. In this class students are expected to put in 100% effort in all that they do. From writing academic essays to using academic language in the classroom you will be required to work hard and expected to keep up with all requirements needed to succeed in this class.
As a class we will explore the importance of Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking. Moreover, we will also delve into issues that not only impact us as individuals but society as well and you will strengthen how to express your viewpoints academically and through the use of evidence to support your claims.
As a class we will also explore voices through the lens of those who have been historically marginalized, and we will examine how language can be used as a weapon for change, a weapon for freedom, and a weapon to demand EQUALITY and a more just world.
Lastly, through reading, writing, and critical thinking we will explore how to continue to be agents of change, how to use our voices to not only advocate for ourselves but for our communities as well.
