We are a STEAM school: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math are taught here with equal vigor.  We have created an environment where students can develop both hemispheres of the brain and the connective tissue between, such that their mind may be both constructive and descriptive, intuitive and logical, approximate and precise, and that each hemisphere may work hand-in-hand, together, collaboratively to synergize new ideas and designs. We strive to create a soup of curiosity and passion, for students and teachers, such that they may use their content knowledge as ingredients for their designs.  This is the fabric of our school.  We nurture curiosity.  We expect creativity.

Irving STEAM Magnet has the longest running STEAM program in LAUSD. On September 26, 2013, the U.S. Department of Education awarded our school $1.8 million to implement a world class STEAM Magnet program. A STEAM Magnet strictly speaking is a specialized school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.  We have a state of the art Robotics program, project based learning curriculum and are LAUSD STEM Certified. We were also the first LAUSD middle school to receive WASC accreditation in 2016.

We have over 30 electives to choose from in the Visual and Performing Arts and Science and Engineering categories. Our competition teams have won many awards at the state and national levels at the Vex IQ Robotics League, Ten80 National STEM League and SHARP Dance Organization. 

We are also the only STEAM Magnet to also offer  our students the option of being in the Dual Language Program. Our dual language program prepares students in both English and Spanish to be successful in the field of STEAM careers.
