In Case of an Emergency
EMERGENCIES
It is important for everyone to know what procedures we follow in the event of a significant earthquake or other emergency situation. Below are the various procedures/protocols implemented for the students and staff at WPMS-SJ.
Students will be evacuated to the PE fields and supervised until it is deemed safe to return to the classrooms.
If it is not deemed safe to re-enter the classrooms, students will remain on the PE field until they are picked up by a parent, guardian, or someone on their emergency form. The adult must have proper identification (e.g., Driver’s License, State-Issued ID, Passport).
If it is not deemed safe to remain on campus, students and staff will be relocated to a safe site chosen by LAUSD. If we must be relocated, our relocation sites are either Walnut Park Elementary School (2642 Olive St, Walnut Park, CA 90255) or Raul R. Perez Memorial Park (6208 Alameda St, Huntington Park, CA 90255). Here, they are picked up by a parent, guardian, or someone on their emergency form. The adult must have proper identification (i.e., Driver’s License, state-issued ID, Passport).
If such an emergency occurs, please follow these steps to pick up your child:
ON-SITE EVACUATION
1. Park somewhere in the neighborhood and bring photo identification..
2. Proceed walking up to the Request Gate on Marbrisa St. by the PE Building.
3. At the Request Gate, you will show your photo identification and give the name of the student you are picking up.
4. After requesting the student, proceed to continue north towards the Reunion Gate, located at the end of the PE Field.
6. Your child will meet you at the Reunion Gate, and you can leave campus safely with your child.
OFF SITE EVACUATION
If there is a need to evacuate off campus, please look for communication from the school and/or district regarding where the students have been evacuated. Once the off campus site has been established, there will be a Request Gate and Reunion Gate established. We will then follow steps #4 - #6 above.
LOCKDOWN
In a school-wide lockdown situation, students will not be released until the “all clear” has been given by the Principal / LAUSD / Law Enforcement Agency. For your own safety, we ask that you please follow Law Enforcement’s advice during a Lockdown.
Just to remind you, please ensure all of the information (phone numbers, address, emergency contacts) on your emergency card is accurate. If you need to change your emergency card, please visit Porter's Attendance Office.
