The goal of this organization is to plan events for the students in the Global Leadership & Environmental Action Magnet and seek out opportunities for students to engage with the fields related to our magnet's theme. Within the GLEAM RISE Council we discuss ways to encourage student participation in activities and ways that we can improve the experience of students in the GLEAM and John F. Kennedy HS. Members of RISE Council actively Represent the Interests of Students and the Environment. This class meets one year of the University of California 'g' requirement for an elective course.

The vast majority of work for this course will take place during class time. As such, it is imperative that you attend class regularly.
Work for this course will be posted on Schoology as well as the White Board Configuration in the classroom. Be sure to check both places regularly to be aware of upcoming due dates.
Your tardiness can negatively impact the work of your lab group and the class.
Absences: All absences must be cleared through the Attendance Office upon return. Uncleared absences are recorded as truancies until cleared.
Tardies: Zero period begins at 7:30 and students are expected to be on time to class. Any zero period student arriving in class after 7:45 AM will be marked tardy. Homeroom only students need to be in class by 8:30 AM but are expected to do their best to arrive early when possible. The JFKHS TARDY POLICY (posted in class) will be strictly enforced.
This course is a leadership class that will be planning events and activities for students on campus. This may require students to do additional work outside of normal school hours. Students are expected to be involved in planning and running events outside of class time/school hours.

Active participation in leadership/school-wide activities and planning/running events
Late work policy: Please do your best to adhere to the posted due dates for assignments. If you are unable to meet a due date, please inform Mrs. Richard ahead of time to discuss options. Since this is a leadership class, many of our assignments impact the work of others.
A point system will be used in determining your grade. Graded papers will tell you the number of points you earned. This should be recorded on your grade sheet. At the grading period the total number of points possible will be totaled, your points will be totaled, and the percentage calculated as follows:
(Your Points Earned)/(Total Points Possible) = %

Adherence to the HONOR CODE
HONOR CODE: All students will abide by the HONOR CODE. Student signature on all required assignments (including homework, tests, quizzes, labs, etc.) will signify agreement to the HONOR CODE that expects students to complete their own work without the assistance of others or plagiarizing others. Plagiarizing means taking the words from someone else and passing them off as your own. This means “copying” texts or references or another student’s paper and claiming credit for it as your own work. Copying homework will result in no credit for the assignment, forfeiture of any bonus points, and a U for the quarter grading period. Two such infractions will result in a possible U in cooperation on the semester grade. Cheating on exams/quizzes receives no credit and a U in cooperation on the semester grade.
