Many believe today's students are digital natives savvy enough to use the Internet and other modern technologies. However, today's student has to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to search, retrieve, and evaluate sources of information on the Internet. In addition, they have to learn to examine sources like previous generations had to learn how to read for information and interrogate literature.
Digital literacy is the goal of this educational project. This competence will enable our students to decipher and navigate the digital world of their future. The following project features curated resources that middle and high school educators can use to teach the ISTE Standards for Students. Four of the seven standards are featured below.
Students use technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency of learning outcomes in their courses.
Students learn how to live, learn and work in an interconnected digital world in a safe, legal and ethical way.
Students learn how to critically curate a variety of resources, using digital tools, construct knowledge, and produce original artifacts.
Students learn how to use digital tools to broaden perspectives and enrich learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally.
