Grant High School's Career Technical Education (CTE) program offers Design, Visual and Media Arts (DVMA) career pathway with its vision to provide design and media arts education that will cultivate creativity and innovation among students and develop successful and productive members of society. By imparting 21st-century skills that include critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, innovation, and collaboration, students develop technical skills required for employment, apply knowledge with project-based learning, explore art and design careers, and prepare a portfolio for art school and university acceptance.
It provides technical instruction and practical experience in workplace safety, the basic principles and techniques of graphic design, print and web typography, color theory and management, elements of illustration, intro to logo design, 3D printing, conceptualization of images through sketching, digital imaging software (Adobe Creative Suite) and their applications, basic word processing and spreadsheet (Google Applications), resource management, and employability skills.
In this advanced class, students continue to study the creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. Students develop and reinforce academic and industry-related foundational concepts and skills such as understanding the processes in visual and image analysis, publishing, printing, and other forms of media distribution as well as the pathway to pursue a post-secondary degree in the field of Graphic Arts, Advertising Design, and Marketing. Students will engage in contemporary and historic practices in the creative field through a series of personal and creative activities, as well as develop an understanding of the cognitive marketing and branding solution for a given product whether it is a commodity, to recruit participation or be an instrument of social change.

MEET THE TEACHER
Ms. Dacono is Grant High School's Graphic Design teacher and instructional designer. She has a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration under School of Business & Governance; and a Master's Degree in Development Communication Design. She completed her State of California Career Technical Education credential & authorization from the University of San Diego through Los Angeles County Office of Education. Her LACOE credentials include subjects in Arts, Media & Entertainment; Business & Finance; Marketing, Sales and Services; and Information and Communication Technology. Her extensive corporate experience working as a Senior Marketing & Communications Executive, locally and internationally, and for companies such as Toyota Incorporated, Klenco Singapore Pte and Johnson & Johnson allows her to provide the academic standards and relevant technical knowledge & skills needed to prepare students for further education and careers in emerging professions.
