The Hunger Games Project:
As part of a narrative unit of study, students completed a “jigsaw” summary of The Hunger Games novel. This assignment was a collaborative effort intended to provide the gist of the story to classmates who were not able to obtain a copy of the novel. I am proud of this work because students planned, engaged in discussion, and held each other accountable for completing the jigsaw summary successfully. Also, they supported their classmates’ understanding of the novel which enabled them to complete assignments associated with this text.
-Ms. Warner (8th grade English Teacher)
Mr. Maginnis's Vision Board Project allowed students to create a collage of their career aspirations and favorite things! This helped his students envision their successful future and hopefully gave them inspiration for the long term.

Student Portfolios
Mr. Smythe has his students create portfolios in his computer class. This yearlong project invites his students to share their interests, reflect on their assignments/projects in class, and practice using digital tools to prepare them for the 21st century. The student portfolios engage students, allows them to use their voice to reflect on their interests and classes. Check out more student portfolios here:

Check-Ins
Ms. Martinez connects with her students through daily Check-Ins. In fact, many of our wonderful Edison teachers use this tool as a way to understand how their students are feeling before a lesson and sometimes after a lesson. This is a great way that our staff is building positive relationships with their students as it is almost always followed by a discussion.
