With a little help
From my friends
By Laylah Govella
Chapter 1
Hello everyone! If you're reading this book, you know how to read. (HAHA! Get used to it because I’m going to be doing this for the entire time!)
Anyway, my name is Laylah, I’m 14 years old. If you’re wondering what I look like, I’m about to explain so be patient. Okay, so I have tan skin, and my hair is a very dark brown that is wrapped up in a ponytail. I wear a pink t-shirt, and I have a dark green sweater that is tied around my waist. And I wear blue baggy jeans with black shoes. (Now you know what I look like!)
Now I’m gonna tell the story! It was a very normal day at school. School was, as usual, interesting and boring.
I’m in my science class, learning about this dude named Issac Newton and how he had a genius moment from getting knocked out by an apple.
Then the bell rings. (YESSS!!)
I run out of the classroom, and go into the library.
Since it’s recess (Or what my school calls it, “nutrition”) I have exactly 15 minutes to be by myself before I have to talk to people again.
I went to the library because I wanted to look for some books. (Because my teachers said so, but I don’t really mind. I like the library)
The library is very decorated with murals, and there's a lot of shelves filled with books. Also in the library, there are some tables and chairs so people don’t have to read on the filthy ground.
I spy the school librarian, Mrs. Lavia, and I walk up to her. (If your wondering what Mrs. Lavia looks like, she looks like a librarian)
“Hey, excuse me. Do you know where the non-fiction section is?” I ask. (I have no idea why I can’t find the non-fiction section in a library)
Mrs. Lavia says, “Yeah. It’s in the back of the library. The wall will tell you where it is.” (Okay, so I have to ask the wall where the non-fiction section is, like it’s a card catalog)
“Thank you.” I replied. Then I mumble, “Is this a middle school or is this Hogwarts?”
I go to a wall nearby, and ask, “Hey, wall? Um… do you have any idea where the non-fiction section is?”
Then the wall spells out, “TAKE A RIGHT, THE NON-FICTION SECTION IS IN THAT DIRECTION.” “Thanks, wall.” I replied. (The wall actually talked to me! I stand corrected then) I go to the non-fiction section, and I start to look for books.
I’m looking for books such as George Washington, Maya Angelou, you know, people. And I’m looking around, until I spot something that catches my eye. (It’s a book! And the best part is that it’s blue!)
I read the title that’s on the spine of the book, and the title reads, “All About The Beatles” (YEAH BABY!!!)
If you don’t know who The Beatles are, they’re 4 British guys who formed a band in the 1960s and became the most awesome band in music history! And I so happened to be a huge fan of them.
I get all excited because, come on, you would be too if you found a book about your favorite band.
I stop looking for books that I was supposed to get, and pick up the book about The Beatles.
I open the book, and then the pages spill out. (Oh, no! Not again!) I start to pick up the pages, and then something weird happens.
The floor starts shaking, and the walls start to show cracks. (Dear, walls. If my question was stupid and made you feel like every kid in this school is dumb, I’m very sorry!)
For some reason, I just stood in place. (I’m not sure how standing like a statue will save me from an earthquake, but that was one of my natural instincts. The other one was to run around and shout “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!’’ But I’m in a library, I don’t want to be rude)
Then it gets to the weird part. This hole opened up beneath my feet, and I fell through it! (WHAT THE HECK?!)
While I was falling, I passed stars, planets, nebulas, and galaxies. Which made me think that I’m falling through space. (How can I breathe? Last time I checked, there’s no oxygen in space)
After about 5 minutes of falling through space, I went through another portal, which now took me to the Earth’s atmosphere!
Learning about physics in science, I should’ve died when I landed on solid asphalt from the sidewalk. But when I landed, it was soft and didn’t really hurt, like if I fell off my bed! (Okay, now I’m getting concerned)
When I got up, I took a look around to see where I was. It seemed like a normal town, or street, whatever. (You know what I mean. Hey, that’s a Beatles pun!)
But everything about the place was really weird. Everyone who walked by was dressed up in suits and dresses, the buildings and the cars looked really old, and the people had accents as well.
I saw this kid dressed in a school uniform playing with a ball next to me. (Oh, great! Someone to finally talk to!)
I went up to the kid and asked him, “Hey, kid! What is this place?”
The kid looked at me with pure annoyance and answered with an accent, “London.” And went back to his ball. (...Uhhh…)
I shook my head from the first response and asked the kid again, “You know year it is?”
The kid turned around and answered in the same rude tone, “1967. Have you gone mad?” (My god, this kid can’t be serious!)
I just stood there in complete shock! I couldn’t even respond to the kid, I was too confused about what he just told me! (I think I just time traveled, which I remember hearing was impossible)
The kid looked at me skeptically and hesitantly walked away. He stopped halfway to look back at me with pure disgust, before walking again.
I was so confused on how the hell I managed to go back in time. But after thinking about it, I realized; The book i just destroyed had some sort of magic, that it can transport a person back in time the book takes place. So if I fix the book, it can reverse the effect and send me back home! (Wow, that was a lot of thinking!)
Chapter 2
Okay, since I know what to do now, I can go back home. Should be easy. I just need to find some glue, glue the pages back together, and I should be good.
But then I thought, The year is 1967! The Beatles are still here! This is the perfect opportunity to meet all of them! (Makes sense, there’s only two members left alive. And besides, the chances to meet those two are very slim)
This is going to be awesome! Now I make myself a side quest: Find The Beatles. All I need is to find out where they are right now.
I looked around and I spotted a police officer. (If you want to know what he looks like, look it up on Google, but make sure it’s a 1960’s British cop you're looking up)
I run up to him, and ask, “Hey officer, you know The Beatles right?”
The Police Officer looked over at me and responded, “Yeah. What are you asking exactly?”
I ask, “Do you know where they are?” (I probably shouldn’t have said it like that!)
The police officer raised his eyebrow and gave me a VERY concerned look, which makes me think he probably thinks I’m going to do something illegal. (Oh god! Quick, think of something!)
“Oh no, it’s not what you think. I’m hired protection. You know, like a body guard.” I lied.
“You look a little too young to be working in an area like that.” (Man, why can’t this dude just give in already?!)
“I know, but 20 years ago, it was okay for a kid to be working. And last time I checked, the government allowed little children to work in mines. So technically, I can be a bodyguard.” (Ohh, so that’s when all that information from history class was going to come in handy!)
The police officer sighed and said, “You make a good point. If you want to know where they are, I last saw them blokes going an art exhibit on 15th.” (OH MY GOD! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WORKED!!!)
“Thank you so much!” I said to the very kind police officer, then I “Loony Toon” run to the art exhibit. (I don’t think my little legs can handle all this running!)
I get to the art exhibit, and man! It’s gigantic! All the art pieces looks so pretty, too!
“Wait, no! Stay focused. We’re here to look for four weird British guys, not to browse around!” My brain tells me.
That’s right! So I start to look around to see if I can find the bug people, until I find a painting.
“Eh, what's one painting gonna do?” I said to myself.
So I looked at the painting. It was very beautiful. (Well, If you count colorful squiggly lines as beautiful)
After looking at the painting, I continued my side mission. But then I saw another painting, so I went to go look at that instead. 3 minutes later, I’m carrying a map and looking at all of the paintings in the exhibit. (Yeah, I got side tracked a little)
I was in the middle of observing an art piece made by some woman named Yoko (Oh no! Get It?), until I saw two ringmaster-looking people coming up to me from the corner of my eye.
One was a guy, the other one was a girl. They looked similar so I suspected that they were siblings. They wore the same clothes, (Magician clothes) but the lady wore a long skirt and heels instead of pants and regular shoes.
The lady magician said with a British accent, or an Australian accent? I can’t tell the difference. “Ello’ there, mate! Wanna see a magic trick?”
I looked at the two adults and asked them, “I’m sorry, who the Billy Shears are you?” (If you get my reference, we can be friends)
The guy magician said, with a British/Australian accent, “Oh, pardon us! We’re magicians. (Which was TOTALLY not obvious) “My name Leo, and this is my sister Claudia.”
“Cool,” I replied, “Can you show me the magic trick now?”
Leo took out a deck of cards. “Pick one.” He said.
I picked a card. “Don’t look at your card yet.” Claudia said. (Like I didn’t know how these card tricks worked)
Claudia took out a magician wand from her pocket and tapped the card I picked.
Leo then said, “Now look at your card.”
I looked down at the card. There was handwriting on it that said, “Check your pockets” I checked my pocket, and there was nothing in it! I had $20 in my pocket, and now it’s gone! (Those Houdini wannabes just picked pocketed me!!)
When I looked up, the magicians were already gone. “Oh, you have got to be kidding me!” I said. (I’m about to beat up some middle-aged carnival mascots!)
I start chasing after the Magicians. (So I can get my money back) But they summoned a low beam, so my head smacked into it and I got knocked out. (Ow…)
When I started to wake up, I was hearing these voices, (I’m not schizophrenic! It sounded like people talking) The voices sounded familiar, but I was still a little unconscious, so I didn’t pay attention to that.
The people who were talking to each other sounded british, had a slightly childish voice, and seemed to be coming from four different people.
This is what I heard while I was trying to wake up: (Enjoy!)
One of the voices asked, “Is she dead?”
Another voice answered him saying, “Nah, she’s waking up. You need new glasses.”
A third voice said, “I bet 20 pounds she’s American and doesn’t know who we are.”
A fourth voice told the third, “Alright, then. I bet she’s British and a fan.”
After that lovely conversation, I finally managed to wake up. (I’ve never been knocked out before, so that was quite an experience!)
When I got myself up on my feet, I saw four guys standing in front of me. (This is the part where I explain what they look like)
They all had short, brown hair, except one guy who had longer hair. They all had light skin. (Not surprised)
The first guy wore a burgundy suit with a blue neck tie. He had creme colored pants and black shoes. He didn’t have any facial hair. Not to mention, he did have a pretty face.
The second guy had glasses (He’s probably the one who thought I was dead) He had a mustache. He wore a black jacket with some sort of green fur collar. He also had dark purple pants (Haha, that sounds like a song! Wait, is it a song?) and he had black shoes.
The third guy is the one with the long hair. He had a beard. He wore a brown button-up jacket that had a green neck collar. (Like if he was an academy student) He had black pants and black shoes. (Wow, it seems like black is the main color of shoes here!)
The fourth guy had a lot of rings on his fingers. He also had a mustache. He wore the same thing as the first guy, except he suit was a reddish-orange, his neck tie was purple (like the purple pants guy) and he had dark red pants and black shoes. He also had blue eyes, unlike the other guys who had brown eyes.
I immediately recognized the guys when I woke up, but I didn’t say anything yet. (If you know who they are, good! If you don’t, keep reading. I’m going to say later)
“Oh! Hi there! Have you been watching me the whole time or…” I told the four guys, a little bashful.
“See, American! Pay up!” The guy with the long hair exclaimed (They didn’t even answer my question)
The guy with the rings reluctantly gave the long hair dude the money.
“For the last time, stop mocking my bad eyesight! It’s not funny anymore!” The guy in the glasses told the pretty guy.
“Oh, don’t be soft!” Responded the guy with the pretty face. (What a great friend group)
I interrupted their conversation and asked, “Wait, aren’t you guys The Beatles?” (I already knew but I wanted to freak them out)
“Uh oh, our cover is blown!” Said four-eyes. (I don’t think they fooled anyone. They didn’t really wear disguises)
“Yeah, we are. Are you a fan or something?” The jewelry guy asked me.
“I’m a huge fan! I listen to your guy’s music all the time!”
“I knew it! Give me my money back!” The ring guy demanded.
The guy with the long hair gave the money back. (And when I say “give back”, I mean he smacked the ring guy while he had the money in his hand)
“Can you guys say your names because I forgot them.” I asked the guys. (I didn’t actually forget, I just wanted you to know their names if you didn’t know them)
“Um, ok. Well, my name is Paul McCartney.” Said the guy with no facial hair.
“My name is John Lennon.” Said the guy with the glasses.
“Um, George Harrison.” Said the guy with the long hair.
“And my name is Ringo Starr.” Said the guy with the rings. (I feel like a teacher, having to hear everybody's names)
“Nice, nice,” I say, “Well, since everyone introduced themselves, I’m going to introduce myself also. My name is Laylah, and I wear pants.”
They looked down and nodded. And even muttered something like, “Yep, she is wearing pants.” (Like they didn’t notice when I was unconscious)
“Okay, well I’m gonna go. It was a pleasure meeting you guys.” I said. (Did I just say ‘pleasure’? I’m already getting fancy!) After we said our goodbyes, I walked away to go leave.
Meanwhile…
The Beatles are just standing there, doing nothing. It’s a little silent for a while.
Then John asks the group, “Is me eyesight really that bad?”
The rest of The Beatles groaned. “Yes, it is!” “Why are we talking about this again?!”
“You thought a recreation of the nativity scene was some blokes playing poker!” Paul added.
“Okay! I get the point! Let’s just continue looking at this place.” John said, trying to change the subject.
They started browsing the exhibit for a while. Then the magicians start coming towards them. (The ones who stole my money)
Leo says, “Well, well, well. Do I see four young lads in need of a magic trick?”
“Well, not really. And you probably need glasses if you see three wells.” John joked.
Paul jabbed John in the ribs for his bad pun.
“I’d love to see a magic trick! Show us!” Said Ringo.
Claudia said, “Alright! For this trick, we’re going to need a volunteer.”
Ringo raised his hand right away.
“Okay! Calm down! It’s not a race!” Said George.
“Well, come right up, sir!” Said Claudia.
Once Ringo came up, Leo said, “For our trick today, we’re going to make this gentleman disappear! Using this giant box right here!”
Claudia brought out a large, black box that would fit a person inside. (What’s in the box?!)
She opened the box and explained, “He would go inside the box, and then we would close it. When we open the box, he will be gone!”
Ringo just stared at the box.
“Well, don’t be shy, jump in!” Encouraged Leo.
“Yeah Ringo!” Exclaimed John. “Just get in the bloody box!”
Ringo gulped and hesitantly went inside the box.
Claudia closed the box, pulled out her magic stick (The same one she used to steal my money), and tapped on the box.
Claudia then opened the door, which showed an empty box, no Ringo inside! (Dun Dun Dun!)
“Blimey! He disappeared! Where did he go?!” George exclaimed.
“It’s a magic trick! The whole point of this trick is not to know where your friend is. If we tell you, the trick will be ruined!” Leo explained rather rudely.
John said, “Yeah, we don’t really care. We’re going to find him anyway.”
The Beatles checked every single creak and crevice in the exhibit in search for Ringo. Even touching the paintings and artwork to see if they find them there. (Which is basically a war crime, according to art museums)
Then George stopped and said, “Wait, fellas. I just got an idea.” And started rummaging through his pocket.
“Oh, look. George has an idea. Can’t wait to see what it is.” Paul said sarcastically.
John shushed him and said, “I wanna see how this turns out.”
George then takes out a pack of cigarettes. (Little fun fact; they used to smoke. Back in those days, it was normal for people to smoke, so don’t act surprised.)
He raised it in the air and yelled, “Hey, Ringo! If we find you, you can have the last pack!”
Suddenly, Ringo fell from a low hanging vent. “Ow!” Ringo yelled in pain. (No magic was required)
“Works everytime.” George said as he tossed the pack to Ringo.
Paul asked, “Why were you in the vent?” (How is he supposed to know?)
“I don’t know. I remember I was in the giant box, then everything went dark. Then I woke up in a vent, which was very disgusting.” Said Ringo while he was lighting a cigarette.
“Um, I don’t think we’re supposed to smoke in here.” John mentioned.
George whispered to John, “Mate, he just got trapped in a vent. Just let him.”
Then the magicians (Yes, the ones who stole my money. Just making that fact VERY clear) come back.
But they didn’t seem very happy. (Huh, I wonder why)
Leo said, “Wow, look who it is; It’s the people who ruined our magic trick.” (Ohh, so that’s why they were mad)
"Luckily, we have another magic trick!” Claudia said.
“And what was the trick?” you ask. There was none. They used that as an excuse to pull out a chainsaw out of thin air! (HOLY CRAP, MAN!!!)
The Beatles scream, “AAHHHHHHH!!!!!”
Then I come back. (Ta-da!)
I grabbed two pieces of pottery, and throw them at the two houdini’s, which knocked them out. (Man I’m strong!)
“Hey look! The lady with the trousers is back!” Exclaimed Paul.
“Hi again! I came to save your guys. Is that okay?” I ask.
John asked, mildly concerned, “Where did you come from?”
“Yes! Please get me out of here!” Replied George.
“I’m so confused, what is happening right now?!” Ringo asked.
I said, “Calm down guys! I’m going to try to explain this as best as I can. But for now, I think we should get out of here. There’s a hotel nearby, we can stay there.”
And with that, we got out of that place like it was going to explode. (It could’ve, considering that there’s two magicians that are mad as us right now)
Chapter 3
So we’re in a hotel that was near the art museum. (I don’t know how I found this hotel. I’ve never been here before) Anyway, it’s the next day, and all five of us are in the hotel room.
If you're wondering what this hotel looks like. I’m going to tell you. The walls were some sort of beige or something. And the floor was black carpet (You know, that isn’t shag and super soft, and will most likely give you a carpet burn if you rub your feet on it) There was only one bed, but it was really nice! The bed was super comfortable, and the pillows were super soft too. It’s probably the best bed I slept in! Also since there was only one bed, there were a lot of sleeping bags on the ground. There was a TV in the middle of the room, so that was cool. (I watched a lot of movies on that TV, trust me) Also one of the walls was a window, so you have an entire view of London. Another thing about the hotel was they had tables! (That’s not really an exciting thing but I thought it was cool) Also the bathroom was really cool, too! They had all of these fancy soaps that I never heard of. (I normally don’t take things from hotels, but I kinda want to keep some of that soap when I get back home)
I slept pretty good last night, but I had to wear ear plugs because it was a little hard to sleep. There was a lot of noise keeping me up. (The noise was Ringo snoring. When we woke up, I told him about it. He denied it, but the rest of The Beatles agreed with me and started making fun of him. It was funny)
So we’re in the room now. The hotel had a breakfast buffet, which we were kicked out of because we obviously can’t be classy for 10 minutes! Anyway, continuing on to what’s happening right now. The Beatles are putting on a little performance for me! They’re singing “Ticket To Ride”. I love that song. (I don’t know how all of their band equipment managed to fit in such a small space, but I guess we found a way) I’m just sitting on the bed, enjoying the music. Then the song ends. (Sad)
“Okay, I would suggest you guys sit down so you get comfortable. Because, well, I’m going to start explaining.” I said. The Beatles sat down. Then I say, “Okay, so here's the thing, I’m not from this decade.” I start to see some raised eyebrows. (I wonder if someone’s eyebrows can pop out of their head) “Yeah, I know that sounds weird, and it is. But it’s alright. Apparently, I’m from the future.” “Oh! What is the future like? It sounds cool!” Asked Ringo. “It’s exactly the same.” I replied. “Wait. If you're from the future, how did you get here?” Asked Paul. I replied, “Good question. I’m kinda confused about it myself. But what I think happened was I opened a book about you guys, and the pages broke off. And then with some kind of weird story magic or something, I got teleported here.” It got quiet for a while. (Oh my god! Please, someone say something! The silence is killing me!)
“So… you need to go back home by fixing the book then?” Asked George. (Oh my god! Thank you so much! I couldn’t take the silence anymore!) “Something like that, yeah.” I said. “That's nice. But clearly those mean magicians will still come after us.” John added. “I kinda suspected that, watching TV and everything. So I have a new plan set up.” I replied.
The Beatles leaned forward, like I was an all great powerful philosopher or something. (Which I might be, seeing my grades at school. Not trying to brag, sorry) They leaned so far forward that Paul fell on his face. (Trust me, it was really hard for me to keep myself from laughing)
I said, “You guys don’t have to lean so far, I know you're listening. Besides, it's making me anxious.” They sat up again. I explained, “Okay, so here's the plan; Since those magicians want to hunt us down so badly, we’re going to stop them. Because, well, we would be idiots if we didn’t. There’s a bookstore right down the street. We can go there to see if there’s any books about stopping magicians. And I’m gonna get some glue and try to fix my book at the same time.” Then I took a giant deep breath, because I needed to breathe. The Beatles started clapping.
“I have glue if you want some.” Said Paul as he handed it to me. “Oh, thanks!” I replied. “How come he has glue?” Asked Ringo. “Yeah, I wouldn’t ask.” Replied John. “Wanna get some food?” Asked George. “About time someone said something! I’m starving!” I said. And with that, we left the hotel.
Chapter 4
So now all five of us are in a Pub. (This one we’re in was 6 miles away! And this was the closest one! My feet hurt now)
Also before we got here, we went to a bookstore to try to find a book about magicians. Good news, we found one. Bad news, it’s all in Latin. So we’re going to try to translate this thing and see what it says.
Anyway, the Pub looks like a bar, but there’s throwing darts. If you don’t know what a bar looks like, it looks like a big building that has wood everywhere. Wood walls, wood floor, wood tables. They have a counter where you can order drinks and stuff, but if your in a table, there are waitresses to take your order. They also serve food, so there are some kids. (Bars aren’t just about the alcohol people! You can eat too!)
I tried the throwing darts, and I did pretty good. (Mostly because I play a lot of games at Dave & Busters) The Beatles… not so much. (I don’t want to bore you with too many details, but let’s just say, we’re not allowed to play with throwing darts anymore)
So now we’re all sitting at a table. I’m trying to glue the pages back in the book, while The Beatles are trying to decipher the book we’re trying to read. (I would help, but I don’t know Latin. And I’m already busy trying to fix my book)
It’s really quiet for a while, well not really. Because this is a bar, and people talk a lot. But I mean, WE are quiet. (I never expected this would happen) Then our stomachs break the silence by growling.
I said, “It just occurred to me that we never got food, even though the whole point of us going here WAS to get food.” “Yeah, I think it was because we got distracted from the darts and our books.” Paul said. “Wait, we were at the buffet thing at the hotel. How come we’re still hungry?” Asked Ringo. “Wow. You really ARE stupid.” Replied John. Ringo got offended and kicked John’s shin. “OW!!” Cried John. “We got kicked out, remember?” George said. “Ohh, right. I just forgot.” Replied Ringo. (Like I said, what a great friend group)
A waitress comes up to us to take our order. (We just got sandwiches and drinks) Meanwhile, the evil magicians somehow found us, and are in the bar. When our drinks were made, they did some spell to them, and then they left. (Side note; I did not know they were here. I was just trying to fix my book)
I heard a bell ring, because they ring a bell when your order is ready. (Like in a hotel) So I get up and go towards the counter to get our food.
But then five guys, (Not the ones who make burgers and fries) come up to me and said, “Hey, not to bother you, but can you do us a favor?” I replied, “Sure, what is it?” The guys said, “Can you give us our drinks while you get yours?” “Sure, I guess.” I sighed.
I get to the counter and grab a tray, so I can carry all the stuff I have to get. Then I realized, those guys ordered the same stuff as us. So there are two batches of everything. “You’ve got to be joking.” I said to myself. I took the food and drinks and placed them on the tray. I gave the people their stuff, and then I came back to our table with our stuff.
We put our books aside so we have enough room to eat. (And when I say “put them aside”, I mean we pushed them off the table) Then we started eating. I got to say, I never thought sandwiches would be this good! (Well, sandwiches not made by my mom, because nothing beats my mom’s cooking) The tea was good too. I didn’t think I'd like it, but I did. The only problem was I kept burning my mouth trying to drink it. (Well, I’m not used to drinking tea. So of course I’m going to burn my mouth) But the food was good overall.
After that, we were all full from all the food we ate. The thing was, nothing happened to us, even though the magicians did something to the drinks. (Which I still didn’t know then) Funny thing is, even though I’m full, I’m looking at the dessert menu. (Because that’s who I am. I never really get full)
Anyway, I’m looking at some desserts to eat while The Beatles are doing a funny face challenge. (Don’t ask what gave them the idea. I looked up from the menu and saw them doing it) But as I’m looking at some chocolate cake, which to be honest sounds really good, I get a nagging feeling to leave the Pub. I have no idea why I have this feeling, I just know something's wrong. I take a quick look at the people who I did the errand for, and they’re just talking and drinking. Looking at them makes the feeling worse, and now I’m more on edge.
I get out of my seat and say, “We gotta get out of here!” “How come?” Asked Ringo. “I don’t really know exactly, but I’m sensing something bad is going to happen. So I think we better leave.” I said. The Beatles said “Okay.” and they got up.
We’re about to reach the door, until we heard screaming. The people I gave the drinks to were going crazy, and causing chaos. (I must have spidey senses or something!)
Everyone was running around, throwing tables or chairs. It was the biggest bar fight ever. We tried to open the door, but it was locked. Then I realized what happened; The magicians did a spell on our drinks to try to make US go crazy. But since the other people ordered the same thing as us, I mixed up the drinks and gave them the messed up drinks. Making THEM go crazy. (Now I feel like Issac Newton. Mostly because I did a lot of thinking, and also someone just threw an apple at me)
I told The Beatles what happened, and they all groaned. Someone came by with a jar of jellybeans, because I guess they’re trying to save it or something. (Oh, no! I see where this is going!)
Then she tripped and all the jellybeans from the jar flew out and hit George. “Are you kidding me?!” George exclaimed. We all laughed at him. (If you don’t understand, people kept throwing jellybeans at George because he liked jellybeans. He hated it when that happened, so that’s why it’s funny)
Ringo was laughing the most, which I thought was funny but kinda cruel at the same time. Above us was a shelf of wine bottles. (The ones that are basically indestructible) Some dude slammed into the wall really hard. One of the wine bottles fell off the shelf and hit Ringo in the head, which knocked him out. (1st, that is instant karma! 2nd, the ironic thing was that the bottle broke)
“So… who’s going to carry Ringo?” I asked. It was silent for about 5 seconds. Then I offered, “Wanna draw straws?” I take out 4 straws out of my pocket. We picked out the straws. John got the shorter straw, so he had to carry Ringo. (John told me he weighed like an elephant. And I’m not sure if he was kidding or if that was true)
John said, “Okay, we need to get out of here! The problem is that the door is locked, and there is no back exit. So how are we going to get out of this mad house?” Everyone shrugged. I eyed the window, which was somehow still intact, but not for long. “I have an Idea.” I said. We jumped out the window. (That was the idea I had, if you didn’t get the context clue about the window)
We all landed on the sidewalk, which was now covered in glass. None of us got hurt, luckily. (If you don’t count the wine bottle thing) Also John managed to carry Ringo when he jumped out of the window, which I got to say was pretty impressive. (Yeah, Ringo is still unconscious) We all got up, brushing off our clothes. (Because we just jumped out of a window)
Paul asked, “So… where to?” I suggested, “Back to the hotel?” Everyone said, “Yeah.” So we went back to the hotel.
Chapter 5
It’s the next day, and now we really need to solve this problem quickly. (By the way, Ringo is awake so that’s good)
We’re at an auto shop that’s outside London. We didn’t want to walk such long distances, so we needed a car. Good news, we found one. Bad news, it’s kinda broken. So we’re having George and Ringo fix it.
While that’s happening, we’re continuing to translate our book, and I went back to fixing my book. (I forgot to mention in the last chapter that we got our books when we escaped the Pub, but we did, so It’s all good)
Then after 20 minutes, the car was fixed, so we can finally drive instead of walk! (My feet were hurting really bad yesterday, so that’s a relief)
“I want to drive! I’ve always wanted to drive one of these!” I said. I got into the driver's seat while everyone else got in the car. (Except George, who is still doing something) “Do you know how to drive a car?” Asked Paul. I responded, “No, not really. They don’t let you drive until you're 16. But I figured I could learn right now. Why do you ask?” (I saw them doing the “Hail Mary” prayer. It’s not that big of a deal! I’ve played Mario Kart a bunch of times, I got this!)
I take a driver’s manual out of the glove compartment, and start reading it. I turn on the car and start to find a way to get the car off of parking mode.
I turn around and ask, “Do you guys know how to switch to ‘drive’ on this thing?” “Um, you move the stick that’s in the center of the car.” Said John. “Ohh, okay. Thanks.” I replied. I moved the stick so the car can move, and now I’m trying to figure out how to drive the car. (There are two pedals. I know ones ‘brake’ and ones ‘gas’, but I don’t know which one is which) I read the manual again and it said that the gas is the right pedal, so I press my foot on the pedal. But instead of going forward, the car went backward. (Turns out I put the car on ‘reverse’ instead of ‘drive’. My mistake!) Because I went in reverse, I hit George a little bit.
“AH!!” Yelled George. I hit the brakes and yelled, “Sorry!” “It’s okay!” Said George. He got up and got in the car. “I don’t think we’re going to make it out of this car alive, so remind me to call me mother.” Ringo told George. I put the stick on ‘drive’ and pressed on the gas, the car moved forward so that was good.
Now we were on the road. (I don’t really know where we were going exactly, I think we were going back to the hotel)
I wasn’t sure what to do when I saw certain signs or when I had to turn or something. So while I was driving, I was reading the driver’s manual at the same time. Also there would be times when I would just look at the manual instead of the road, so Paul had to control the steering wheel or something so I wouldn’t cause a car crash. (He was in the passenger seat so he had access to a lot of the driving equipment, or whatever you call the stuff in a car) I almost hit multiple people because I would accidentally miss a stop sign or a traffic light. (Or in some cases drive on the sidewalk)
I’m having a good time because I get to drive. Paul is on edge because he’s trying to keep me from killing all of us, since this is my first time driving. George is taking a nap. Ringo is reading a book, I’m not sure which book he’s reading, but it sounds interesting. And John has his head out the car window. I have no idea why he would do that. Maybe he had a hard day’s night. (#Beatles pun!)
Anyway, the driving was going well. I knew the basics a lot more so I didn’t need the driver’s manual as much, so that was great. Everything was peaceful, until those Magicians somehow found us again.
I was just driving peacefully on the freeway, until I looked at the review mirror and saw a black car going in our direction. I didn’t really pay attention to it too much, but I had the nagging feeling looking at it. Since John had his head out the window, he saw who was in the car and said,
“Hey lads! The evil magicians are in that car!” I said, “God dang it! Okay, keep your head out the window. You’ll be my eyes, got it?” “Okay!” John responded. George woke up and asked, “What’s going on?” “The magicians are back, and they’re chasing us.” Said Ringo. “Ugh! Why can’t we have some peace and quiet?!” Exclaimed Paul. I throw the driver’s manual away and say, “Guess I don’t need this. It won't tell me how to escape crazy people that’s chasing me on the road.”
Out of the corner of my eye was the car radio. (Surprisingly, I didn’t notice it until now. Maybe it was because I didn’t recognize it, because car radios are different nowadays) I turned it on and it played songs by different people I’ve listened to sometimes. I pressed a button and it went to “Drive My Car” by The Beatles. (I love this song! Also it kinda fits because we're in a car)
I close my eyes and lift my hands in the air as I’m about to sing with the song, until Paul starts yelling, “Keep your eyes on the road! Keep your eyes on the road!”
The magicians threw something that looked like a magician wand, and it landed on the road. “Traffic signs, dead ahead!” Warned John. I turned around and saw a bunch of traffic signs in the way. (Now that is just cheating)
I had to swerve on the road left and right, left and right, to avoid those things. I was basically giving whiplash to everyone in the car because I was trying to avoid the signs. I eventually got out of that mess, which was a relief.
Meanwhile in the backseat, Ringo threw up. (I think swerving the car made him nauseous) “Can you do that somewhere else? I don’t want to see that!” George said. “Oh I’m sorry!” Ringo replied sarcastically. “I’ll try to vomit somewhere else. It’s not like I’m in a car!” John yelled, “They’re right behind us! We gotta do something!”
George grabbed Ringo’s book. He rolled down the window, and threw the book at the magician’s car. That seemed to do the trick, because the book smashed into the windshield and slowed the car down. We got off the freeway and made it back to London.
The magicians spawned another traffic sign that would’ve hit John, but Ringo pulled him back in the car as we passed it. I saw a sign that said “Landfill. 2 miles ahead.” Which gives me an idea.
I get to the landfill, then I speed up towards it. “Laylah, what are you doing?!” Yelled Paul. “I think I’m going to be sick again.” Mumbled Ringo. “Don’t you dare throw up on me! I will throw you out of the car if you do!” Yelled George. “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!” John screamed. The Beatles started screaming as we got closer to the landfill. (Music to my ears. Besides the music that is already playing)
“Hold on guys!” I yelled. At the last second, I pressed on the brakes as hard as I could. Our car skittered and leaned forward, then it stopped. (The song ended too. Perfect timing!)
The magician’s car didn’t stop though, and it went straight into a pile of trash. (HAHA!) I turned around to check up on everyone. “Everybody okay?” I asked out of breath. “Yeah.” Everyone said except Paul, who fainted. “I drove a car, guys! Isn’t that amazing!” I said. John started clapping and said, “Yeah, You did great!” Ringo nodded, and then threw up again. “Ew! Get a room, would you.” Said George.
“Wanna get out of here?” I asked. “Yeah, sounds like a good idea.” Ringo said.
With that, we drove away from that mess. We went back to the hotel where we cleaned the inside of the car and had Paul calm down. (Poor guy had to breathe through a brown paper bag. He might need therapy after this. My bad!)
Chapter 6
A couple hours later, we’re at a library. The library looks like the library at school, except it’s a lot bigger. It has 2 floors, a million bookshelves, and a whole area full of tables. (Our library at home is really small, which makes me think it used to be a church)
Anyway, we’re sitting at a table, still trying to translate our book, and trying to fix mine.
Since we were having trouble with trying to read the book, John got a book that’s basically “How To Speak Latin For Dummies.” The book really helped, so we can actually read some of the words a little better. (Makes me think why we didn’t do this earlier. Could've saved us a lot of time, but oh well)
I even helped out a little bit with the book sometimes, but I mostly paid attention to my book. Suddenly I have another nagging feeling. (Okay this is a definite sign I’m Spiderman!) The Beatles see me tripping out, and I can tell they’re worried.
“You okay, Laylah? You don’t seem good.” Asked John. “I’m having that bad feeling again. I don’t know why though.” I said. “Well, maybe we should write all this information down just to be safe.” Paul recommended. “Okay, but who’s gonna write it down?” Asked Ringo. It was silent for 3 seconds. Then The Beatles did rock, paper, scissors to decide who had to do the writing. Ringo lost so he had to write the stuff down.
With that, we continued with our work. We were being very loud, despite being in a library. The Beatles were talking to each other, about the book we were reading or some off-topic stuff sometimes. And I was laughing because of their conversations and I was talking to them too. Of course the librarian didn’t think our talking was amusing. She kept shushing us and telling us to be quiet. She did it 6 times, and it was getting on my nerves. One time she did it again, so I shushed her back, which gave her a confused look on her face. I winked at her and continued talking. (Not so cocky anymore! Now you know what it feels like, lady!)
Anyway, I’m almost done with my book, I have like one more page left. And we’re also almost done with the book. Then we hear an explosion. We look up to see the magicians are back! (Come on, people! Just let us have some peace and quiet!)
Everyone in the library left, so it was just the magicians, me, and The Beatles. “Look who’s back!” Leo said in a playful voice. “‘Look who’s back! Look who’s back!’” I mocked. Leo didn’t seem to like that. “How did you even find us?” Asked George. “Magic, how else? But enough horseplay, I say we spice things up a little.” Said Claudia. She pointed a magicians wand right at our table. “GUYS RUN!!!” I yelled.
As soon as we got out of our seats, the table exploded. “That’s not fair! You guys can use magic! That’s cheating!” I yelled. (Leo and Claudia didn’t seem to care. They’re like bullies) We ran away from the evil magicians. I heard them say something like “Spread out.” Which is not good. We found a bookshelf to hide in. (We didn’t go into the bookshelf, we crouched by it so the magicians wouldn’t see us. Which you probably knew but I just wanted to clarify)
“This is probably the last time I’m going to a library!” Ringo whispered. “Oh, yeah? When was the last time you went to a library then?” John whispered back. “Shut up, they might hear us!” Paul whispered. “Oh, I’m sorry! I’m just asking because I’ve never seen Ringo in a library before.” Whispered John.
The bookshelf started to glow, which was not a good sign. As soon as we got out of the way, the bookshelf fell over. (Good thing we saw it glow)
We ran through one of the bookshelf hallways when we ran into Leo.
“Uh oh, look who’s lost! Maybe I can help.” Leo said. He summoned a vine rope which he was able to control. (Which you might have also known) The vine rope wrapped around Ringo’s leg and started pulling him towards Leo. Ringo started screaming like a little girl. (Which I would’ve laughed at, but now is not a good time. Maybe later)
“Do something! I’m going deaf from all the screaming!” Yelled Paul. George grabbed a book from the bookshelf and threw it at Leo. The book hit him and lost focus, which made the vine rope disappear. Ringo got up and said, “Hey, you’re getting pretty good at that!” George just laughed. (He’s not wrong)
We ran to the center of the library. I stopped and asked, “We still have the book, right?” “Yeah, I have it.” George said. He took it out to prove it. I said “Okay that’s good-” As soon as I said that, the book disappeared. “-That’s NOT good!” I continued. “Where did it go!?” We heard a voice say, “Looking for this?” We turned around and saw Claudia holding our book with Leo. (Ah, the ‘slight of hand’ trick. I’m going to hate that trick now)
“Yeah we were looking for it! How did you know?” Joked John. Paul elbowed him again. John replied by smacking Paul in the head. (Reminds me of my siblings) Claudia took out her magic stick and burned the book to ashes. (Good thing we had Ringo write all that stuff down)
The fire made the sprinkler system go off, so now we’re all wet. “Why would they put sprinklers in a library?! The books are gonna get messed up now!!” Said George. “The books will be on fire! They would get messed up anyway!” I replied. I checked my pockets and found that MY book was gone. (The magicians stole my book! Like when they stole my money! Yeah, I’m still not over that)
“Oh, no!” I said. (Did I just steal Lisa Kudrow’s catchphrase from “Friends”?) Leo did some sort of spell, which summoned more vine ropes.
The vine things grabbed The Beatles, one by one. One tried to grab me, but I dodged just in time to not get caught.
I heard Ringo yell, “Hey Laylah, catch!” At the last second, he threw me the piece of paper with the information on it. I grabbed it while it was still in the air.
Then the magicians disappeared with The Beatles. Now I’m standing there all alone and wet, not a great day today.
Chapter 7
Half an hour later, I’m back at the hotel. It seems dark and empty now, it’s not the same without The Beatles there.
I can feel my body shake with guilt and sadness. I feel like it’s my fault that I got into this mess. (Don’t listen to me, I’m just overthinking) Now that my book is gone, I can’t get back home. Which is the one place I want to be at. And now the most awesome and funny people I’ve ever known, (Besides my family) got kidnapped. And I don’t know how to get them back.
I can feel my eyes welling up, which I try to stop by looking up and fanning my eyes. (It didn’t work. It usually does, why didn’t it work this time?)
I plop on the bed face first and I start to cry. (How can I breathe? My face is on the bed and I’m having congestion from crying. I should have a hard time breathing right now) I feel like Dorthey from “The Wizard Of Oz”. (Mostly because I can’t get back home and I’m just crying instead of trying to get back home) I don’t have any motivation and I don’t have super cool powers, so I have no idea how I’m supposed to get home now.
Suddenly, I hear the hotel door open. I stop crying and look up.
I didn't see anybody, but I thought it was weird that they were able to come into the room, because the door was locked. I get up and grab the lamp on the nightstand, in case the person was a burglar or those meanie magicians. I walked up to the hallway where the door was, and I raised the lamp over my head.
Then I hear, “WOAH, WOAH, WOAH! CALM DOWN!” I turn on the hallway light and take a look at the person. It was a woman that looked like she was in her 60’s. She was tanned and had a blonde crew cut. She wore a navy blue t-shirt with blue jeans and black shoes.
I lowered the lamp and said, “Grandma! Uh, what are you doing here?” (Yeah, the person was my Grandma) Grandma said, “I came to talk to you.” “Seeing what year it is, shouldn’t you be 2 years old or something?” I asked. Grandma chuckled and said, “Well, time travel is funny like that. We stay in our regular age and form even though we travel back to the past.” (Ohhh. Make sense why I didn’t dissipate into nothing when I got here)
I asked, “Wait, how did YOU get here?” “The same way you got here. I opened a book, the pages fell out, and I got transported here.” Grandma replied.
I started to get teary eyed again. My Grandma has been missing for 5 months, and I got sad because I missed her. And now here she is, standing right in front of me, like Mother Mary. (#Beatles pun! Sorry, I had to)
Grandma asked, “Want to sit on the bed? Might be more comfortable.” I nodded. We both went over the one bed that’s in the room, and sat next to each other. “What’s with all the sleeping bags on the ground?” Grandma asked. I responded, “I had some friends over, and we only have one bed. They recommended I should take the bed, so naturally I banished them to the floor.” Grandma laughed. Then Grandma got serious and asked, “What’s wrong, mija?” (Getting right to the point)
I took a deep breath and I started explaining to Grandma about everything. How those evil magicians were bothering us, and how me and The Beatles were trying to stop the magicians and try to send me back home, but everything just backfired and turned into a dumpster fire. Grandma was just nodding along and listening to my story.
After I finished with my story, I added, “I don’t know what to do now. I’m usually the type of person who comes up with ways to improvise plans and stay in a positive mood, but now I just don’t know anymore.”
Grandma sighed and said, “I know how you feel, mama. I know what it feels like to feel lost or confused when in a situation you don’t know how to handle. But in my experience, there is always something you can do to get out of it.” “Well how do I get out of this situation? Because I don’t know if I even can.” I asked. (At this point, I started crying again. If you were sensitive, you would too)
Grandma wiped a tear from my cheek and said, “That you have to figure out on your own.” She started stroking the hair from my ponytail and continued, “I’m very proud of you, Laylah. If I was in the same situation, I wouldn’t have gotten this far. But you are much braver and much smarter. You know how to think outside the box and wiggle yourself out of difficult situations. So I have hope that you will find yourself out of this problem. And yes, even though you found yourself stuck in this situation, I know you’ll bounce back and find a solution. You just need to have faith. I believe in you.”
She kissed my forehead and got up. Grandma said, “I love you so very much. You will find a way home, I know you will.” Then she left.
Talking to Grandma made me feel a lot better. (That was a lot of things to keep bottled up like those little boats) Also now that Grandma gave me all this advice, I start to feel confident again. Then I realized that she had a point. If I was able to handle any other situation, maybe I can handle this one. I know that the other plans that I tried didn’t work. But maybe if I can make a new plan that is very (And I mean VERY) thought out, maybe it would work and all would be good.
So with that, I go to one of the hotel tables, take out those little notebooks and a pen from the drawers of the nightstand, take out the piece of paper with all the information on it, and get to work.
I made a new mission. I call it; Mission: possible that I can break my back while doing the mission.
According to the piece of paper, magicians tend to hide out in abandoned theaters. Luckily, there is an abandoned theater on 6th street, they might be hiding there. I’ll go over there around 10:00 AM. After I rescue The Beatles, I plan on having them put on a little performance to bring the magicians to us. (You know, as a trap) So when the magicians come, we can unleash all chaos! It might not work, but it’s worth a shot. Time to stop these magic jerks once and for all!
Chapter 8
At around 10:00 AM the next day, I drove over to the abandoned theater that I talked about in the last chapter.
I’m still kinda new to driving, so of course I would run into things on the way there. I finally got to the theater, where I parked the car by running into a bench. (Because I don’t know how to park a car. But don’t worry, the car was busted up anyway)
The outside of the theater looks like a big building with those “Now Showing” signs. But the theater looked really old. Like posters peeling off the walls, yellow walls that have seen better days, and the letters on the “Now Showing” signs are barely hanging on or missing.
I exited the car and walked up to the double doors. I tried opening it but it was chained up. (I should’ve known the theater wouldn’t be open. I don’t know why I was surprised) I gave a heavy sigh and tried to come up with another way to get inside. Then I get an idea. Usually there are back exits in buildings, there might be one here. So I went around to the back of the theater.
Just as I suspected, there was a back exit. (I was right! I’m so smart!) I slowly turned the door knob, and opened the door. (I thought it was a little weird that the back door was unlocked, but I was just glad it WAS unlocked) I took a deep breath, and walked inside. When I walked in the building, the door closed behind me.
“Guess there’s no turning back now.” I mumbled. It was really dark and I couldn’t see anything, but I brought a lantern so I used it to see my way through.
It was udderly silent. The only thing I could hear was my heartbeat and the floors creaking, which was creepy. (This feels like I’m in a horror movie)
With the lantern, I saw rusty props, ripped costumes, and some rodents who made homes with cardboard boxes. Not to mention, it smelled like dust and old wood. And I think they had the air conditioning removed, so it was really hot.
Soon, I got to the main stage. (I was backstage, which makes a lot more sense with all the props) The curtains were velvet red, with golden yellow ropes attached to them. The stage floor was a polished wood floor, and there were tables and more ropes scattered around the stage. (For this place being abandoned, the auditorium still looks brand new!)
I spotted a rope that reached the ceiling. I got a little curious, so I put down my lantern and pulled the rope. (Might not be a good idea, because it could’ve been a trap. But I did it without thinking, so we’ll see what happens)
Suddenly after I pulled the rope, I heard a loud thud and people yelling, “OW!” (Oh, look at that! I pulled a rope and got free people!)
I turned around and picked up my lantern to see who it was. From the light, I saw 4 guys laying on the ground. When I looked at the guys, I broke into a huge grin. (Just in case you didn’t guess it, it was The Beatles that fell)
I yelled, “Hey guys! I found you!” They looked over at my direction and started smiling and laughing as soon as they saw me. “Oh look, our savior is here!” John said. I started helping them get up on their feet. (Yeah, John was right. Ringo was kinda heavy)
I asked, “How did you guys get here?” Paul shrugged and said, “We just woke up hanging from our feet in this old theater.” I softly chuckled and said, “Well, I’m glad I found you guys. It was getting quiet at the hotel.” “Aww! You missed us?” George asked. “Yeah, I did.” I laughed.
Paul got excited and threw his hands up in the air. But when he raised his hands, he hit John (Who was behind Paul) and knocked him out. Paul turned around and said, “Oh, sorry about that!” George started shaking John.
Finally John woke up, so that was good. (Thought he died for a second) “Uh, oh!” Said Ringo. “What? What happened?!” Asked John. “Um.. I think when Paul hit you, he also broke your glasses.” Ringo explained while holding the broken glasses. John looked at Paul and yelled, “Are you kidding me?! Now I can’t see!” “Guys enough!” I interrupted, “I have another pair of glasses, you can use those.” I tossed John the glasses. (Before I went to the theater, I got glasses just in case something like this happened) “Thank you.” John said while putting on the glasses I gave him.
I continued, “Now, I have a plan on how to stop those magicians. But right now, we need to find a way to turn on the lights because it’s too dark in here.” As soon as I said that, I heard Ringo say, “I found a power box!” (Oh my god! That was really fast!)
We all ran over to where the power box was. We opened it up, where there were a lot of controls that we didn’t know.
“Oh! I think I can fix it!” George said. “You know there’s a big difference between a car and a power box, right?” Said John. George replied, “They’re basically the same thing. But don’t worry, I got this!” But as soon as he touched it, George got electrocuted and passed out. (Turns out, cars and power boxes are NOT the same thing)
I pointed the lantern to the right and saw that there was an “ON” switch right next to the power box. (I don’t know why we didn’t notice it before. It’s a pretty big switch)
I flipped the switch, and all the lights turned on. “Yes! There’s light!” Exclaimed Paul. Ringo got smelling salts from his pocket to try to wake up George. It worked, and George woke up. (Who wouldn’t wake up from smelling salts? Those things smell awful, so I don’t think anyone would sleep through that)
I explained, “Okay! Now that everyone is conscious, I’m going to explain my plan. We’re going to set up the stage to make it look pretty. And I’m going to have you guys perform so we can bring the magicians to us. Then when they come over, we are going to fight those magicians. But since we’re in a theater and we have a plan, that will make this a fair fight. If we win, we can all go home and feel good about ourselves. Understand?” The Beatles said, “Yeah, Sounds good.” “Alright let’s do this!” I exclaimed.
So we are off to work on setting up the stage for our big performance.
The Beatles are setting up their instruments while I make the stage look good for the performance. I put lights all around the stage to make it more bright. I also added some of the old decorations for the background. (Might give these old cardboard cutouts one last show before they get eaten by rats)
A while later, everyone's instruments are set up, and the stage is looking bright and beautiful. We’re admiring the beauty we created.
“Oh my! How did you design this so wonderfully?” Asked Paul. I said, “I was in a play, so of course I helped with the setting. And I’m an artist, so I know how to make things look pretty.” “Cool.” John replied.
“Should we perform right now? Or should we wait for another decoration to be put up?” Asked Ringo. I raised my eyebrow, because he sounded a little shaken up when he said that. “Don’t worry, Laylah. He’s being bashful because he’s going to sing this time.” George said. I started laughing, which made Ringo blush. “Don’t worry, pinky. You’ll do good.” Said John. (That’s really cool! Ringo doesn’t sing that often, so this makes it even more awesome!) “Well, I think it’s a good idea about starting right now. So let’s get to it.” I said.
Everyone got to their positions. Paul asked, “Would you like to do the honor of counting us off?” (OH MY GOD!!!) I squealed and said, “Yeah! That would be amazing!” I cleared my throat and said, “1.. 2.. 3.. 4!” Then they started playing.
The song they played was “With A Little Help From My Friends”. (Yeah, Ringo sings this one)
I was just standing there, listening to the music. (Reminds me of their manager. Wait, where is he? How come I never realized that he wasn’t with us?)
The song is really nice, and it’s really catchy too. (Just like that one song about the octopus, which Ringo also sings)
Soon, the song ends. (Also sad) I start to get nervous. I could feel myself getting sweaty. (Which is kinda gross but makes sense at the same time. Especially when you’re in a big abandoned building that feels like a sauna)
Then just as I suspected, the magicians came. They burst through the door. (And when I mean “Burst”, I mean that they made the door explode, again.)
Claudia and Leo came walking in all fancy, like they’re hosting the new episode of “Saturday Night Live”.
Claudia started clapping and said, “What a performance, gentleman! You fellas put on quite a show, I must tell you.” “Well, thank you! We try our best.” John said. Everyone rolled their eyes and groaned. (For the third time, what a great friend group. I wonder if this happens often?)
Claudia laughed sarcastically and said, “Yes well, unfortunately the show must come to an end.” “Yeah, unfortunately you won’t be able to like whose show will end. Because the last time I checked, amateur magicians like you guys tend to be little crybabies when your little tricks don’t work.” I said in a coy voice. Me roasting the magicians made The Beatles go crazy, laughing and saying I’m cold as ice. (Which I think is hilarious, because I never thought someone would actually say that to me)
The magicians clearly seemed upset because their cheeks turned red. (Haha! They know it’s true) Leo chuckled and said, “We’ll see about that.”
Claudia did a trick that cut a piece of rope that was connected to a sand bag that was hanging. The sand bag was falling really fast and was right above my head. (Just to clarify, I noticed the sand bag last second. I’m not one of those cartoon characters who just watch the thing fall)
The sand bag would’ve hit me, but John pushed me out of the way just as the sand bag fell to the ground. “Thank you. Also this is starting to get really old.” I said.
Leo summoned his vines of terror and grabbed Paul. Ringo grabbed some cardboard cutouts and threw it at Leo and Claudia, knocking them down and setting Paul free. “Thank you.” Paul told Ringo.
I saw a chandelier hanging above the magicians, which gives me an idea.
I asked The Beatles, “Do any of you guys have a knife or something?” George nodded and gave me a switchblade. “Why does George have a knife?” Asked Ringo. John responded, “I wouldn’t ask either." George started doing that creepy smile that he does. (I think I know the answer now)
I threw the knife in the air. The knife cut the thing holding the chandelier in place, which made the chandelier fall. It landed on the magicians, trapping them. (WE DID IT!!)
We started celebrating, then Paul said, “I’m going to call the police.” We all said, “Yeah, that’s a good idea.”
Chapter 9
20 minutes later, the police arrived. We forgot to mention to go around the back, so they had to cut the chains in the front entrance. (Sorry about that)
There were about 5 police officers, along with the Sergeant. (I forgot his name, we’ll just call him Mr. Sergeant)
If I had to describe how the police looked when they saw what happened, probably confused and disgusted. (You would too if you saw 4 guys, 1 adolescent child, and 2 magicians tied up in a chandelier)
“What happened here?!” Asked one officer. I explained the whole situation, how those magicians were being very mean, and how we outsmarted them.
Mr. Sergeant came forward and told the cops, “Take the magicians in.” The police handcuffed the magicians, and dragged them out of the theater. Claudia and Leo gave us a nasty look of hatred before the police took them away. (If looks can kill, I feel like my dead body would’ve been dropped to the bottom of the ocean)
Mr. Sergeant came forward to me and The Beatles and said in a deep voice, “We need to have a little chat.” I gulped, that can’t be good. Mr. Sergeant started, “First of all, we found a book and $20 in American money. I suspect it belongs to one of you?” “Both are mine.” I said. The Sergeant gave me my book and my money. (Yes! I got my money back!!! Oh, and we can’t forget about my book too. But I got my money back!!!)
“There is one other thing I need to talk about.” Said Mr. Sergeant. (Oh, no!) Mr. Sergeant continued, “You’ve caused trouble as well! Because you fellas destroyed a Pub, destroyed a library, broken multiple art pieces at the art museum, and disobeyed road rules!” (That is a very long list! But to be honest, the last one isn’t really our fault. I’m new to driving, so of course I would mess up often. Oh wait, I think that’s why he was mad about it)
Now I was really starting to sweat, and not because of the heat. (Yeah, it’s that bad. Even Mr. Sergeant is sweating. Which for some reason, makes him more intimidating) It was silent for a couple of seconds. My heart feels like it’s inside banging drums, which is not a nice feeling by the way. (I can’t go to jail! My parents would kill me!)
Instinctively, I put my hands together so I can just get the “getting arrested” part over with. Mr. Sergeant laughed and said, “You can put your arms down, I’m not going to arrest you.” I gave a sigh of relief and dramatically fell on the ground, which made The Beatles laugh. (I forgot to mention that I’m a little dramatic, but you probably guessed seeing how I was the whole time)
Mr. Sergeant continued, “Since this whole situation was used for self-defence, I’ll leave you with a warning. But, I don’t encourage you to do this again!” We all nodded. Mr. Sergeant left, which was a HUGE relief. (I actually thought I was going to get arrested. So that’s good I didn’t)
“I can’t believe that we won a fight against magicians!” Said Ringo. “Well, we did. Otherwise, we would be complaining that we lost.” Replied John. Ringo threw his drumstick at John. “OW! What was that for?!” Exclaimed John. (I don’t know if I should laugh or hit him as well)
I gave George his little knife back. “You use that to cut your hair?” Paul joked. George did a petty laugh and waved the knife at Paul, threatening to poke him with it. (Once again, what a great friend group. Is this annoying you? If it is, sorry)
I asked, “Do you guys have any glue? I left mine at the library and I need to glue in one page left.”
Paul nodded and gave me glue. “Thank you.” I said. “Okay, I gotta ask; How come you have a second bottle of glue? Do you just buy multiple bottles of glue and keep them in your pocket for later?” Asked George. Paul replied, “Yes. And since you asked, you don’t get glue.” George looked sad. (I guess he wanted glue. But I mean, who wouldn’t want free glue?)
I was about to glue in my page, but then I ran into a problem. I turned and asked, “Do you guys know a flat surface I can glue on?” “Not particularly. Why don’t you do it on the floor?” Ringo suggested. The Beatles looked at him like he was out of his mind. John’s face lifted, which tells me he has an idea. John grabbed Ringo’s neck and made him bend over. John then said, “Now you have your flat surface.” (Poor Ringo)
I laughed and said, “Thanks, that will work.” I put my book on Ringo and started gluing in the last page. Soon, I finished gluing the page into the book. (Oh my god I did it!)
The Beatles started clapping and cheering because I finished my book. (What a great friend group, and I actually mean that.)
I looked at them and my mood changed. I had so much fun with these guys, and we went through a lot together. But now I have to go back home, and I have to leave them. (Oh god, this is sadder than I thought)
I started tearing up because I have to say goodbye to some of the best people I’ve met. “I’m going to miss you guys.” I said. Paul replied, “Us too.” I asked, “Can I hug you guys?” (Okay that seems a little weird, but this is my last few minutes with these guys. I want to enjoy it while it lasts)
“Yeah, go ahead.” Ringo said. So I hugged all The Beatles. (I hugged them pretty tight, I hope I didn’t break their ribs doing it. Wait, is that possible?)
“I just want to say, you're the coolest girl I’ve ever seen, and I’m married.” Said John. I chuckled and said, “Thank you, that means a lot.” (Not surprised, but it’s still nice to hear it from someone)
“If this happens again, can you actually tell us what the future is like? You know, if we aren’t chased down by evil magicians.” George asked. “Yeah, I will.” I promised.
I took one last look of everything and looked back on our time together. God, it was really chaotic, but it was pretty fun in a way. (If fun was causing the chaos)
And so, The Beatles said goodbye, and I said hello. (#Beatles pun! This is the last time, I promise)
I held the book, and closed my eyes. Once again, everything went quiet. Then I heard some people talking. I opened my eyes, and found myself back in the school library.
(Oh my god! I’m home!!!!) I’m back at the spot I was at before I went back in time. I looked around, and realized something; everything is the same! It’s like time froze when I was gone. (Is that what Grandma meant? I don’t know)
And also, remember when I said the walls were crumbling and the floor was shaking? Well now there are no cracks on the walls, so it’s like there was never an earthquake! (The walls have forgiven me! This is amazing! I mean, it’s great being back home, but the walls aren’t mad at me anymore!)
Then Mrs. Lavia comes out of nowhere and scares the bejesus out of me.
“Jesus, don’t do that!” I told her out of breath. (I don’t even know where she came from. But the walls talk so I guess she has supernatural abilities that I’m not aware of)
“I’m sorry, but I just wanted you to know that the next class is going to be starting soon.” Said Mrs. Lavia.
She glanced at my book. “Oh, I see you found a book. Do you want to check it out?” Mrs. Lavia asked. I asked, “Can I buy the book?” (I mean, I have my $20 back) She replied, “Yeah, meet me at the counter when you're ready.”
Then Mrs. Lavia went back to the front desk. I looked down at my book. I smiled and said, “You guys really are dorks.” Then I made my way to the check-out counter.
The End
