Welcome and Overview
Welcome to the Laurel School District Curriculum and Course Development Hub!
Welcome to the Laurel SD curriculum hub. The development of this hub is intended to be a resource for our staff as they develop, edit, and create curriculum. The goal of the hub is to help advance our initiative to #REIGNITE curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development in a post-pandemic world.
This site will provide you with an overview of and materials for supporting Laurel's course development process. In order to personalize learning for our students, this multi-year, multi-stage process allows our teachers to collaboratively and authentically build curricula and courses.
Project Overview
As we emerge from the pandemic and establish a new sense of normal, our curriculum writing project will provide a framework and roadmap for proficiency across all grade levels and content areas.
Stage 1 Desired Results: Enduring Understandings & Essential Questions
We will identify the desired results for each subject, unit, and lesson.
What knowledge and skills will students know and be able to do?
What Big Ideas/Enduring Understandings will be explored?
What Essential Questions will generate inquiry and provide a deeper understanding of the Big Idea?
How are our Big Ideas and Enduring Understandings aligned to content standards?
Stage 2: Assessments/Evidence of Learning
What evidence will students submit that demonstrates a proficient understanding of the Big Idea/Enduring Understanding?
How do we develop authentic understandings within our assessments?
How will our assessments demonstrate a transfer of knowledge?
What is the role of project based assessments?
How do we balance authenticity with the need to assess in the manner of the test? Are they mutually exclusive?
Stage 3: Learning Plan
What Learning Plans are developed that support a depth of knowledge that will challenge students and generate inquiry?
How will the rigor and relevance of our learning plans lead to a transfer of knowledge or the acquisition of skills?
Do we have the student data to determine readiness levels?
Do we know how our students learn?
Do we incorporate student interest into our planning?
