Mary Anning (1799-1847) was born in Lyme Regis, one located south of England coastal town. This area contains a wealth of fossils from the Mesozoic.

Mary Anning collected fossils and rocks lose when the there was no tide.


Because of their precarious economic situation , Mary Anning sold the fossils found to survive.

In 1820 , a collector of fossils organized a large auction, and most of the fossils discovered by Mary Anning became part of private collections and museums.


Her findings:

The first ichthyosaur skeleton , who also knew how to identify a new species.

The first plesiosaur skeleton .

Some fish fossils .

Her findings were instrumental in reconstructing the past of life and history on Earth.


On the death of Mary Anning , scientists and historians attributed the discoveries of her fossils to the naturalists who had bought them.

In those days , was not appropriate to recognize these findings to a woman , much less a woman from the working class.

Currently , Mary Anning is consideres the largest seeker and discoverer of fossils in history
