Cirkelbroen Bridge

This 40-meter-long pedestrian bridge is made of five interconnected circular platforms of various sizes, each with its own 'mast', a reference to the ships navigating the Copenhagen waterways. Several tensioned wires are suspended from the mast and connected to the periphery of the bases. This bridge has a rotating function, which allows large ships to pass in and out of the canal. Smaller boats such as kayaks can go under elevated podiums.

This bridge opened on August 22, 2015 was designed by Olafur Eliasson, a Danish-Icelandic artist. The bridge is located in Christianshavns Kanal, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The bridge cost around DKK 34 million. The Municipality of Copenhagen contributes DKK 7.7 million, which stems from a deed of gift it received from Privatbankens Fond (now part of the Nordea-foundation) at the city’s 800th anniversary in 1967.

The bridge has that peculiar shape because it is a tribute to the history of Christianshavns Kanal. Regarding the history of this kanal, hundreds of sailboats passed every day through it.
