Message from Miss White

As we come to the end of term, it is lovely to look back on what a fantastic term it has been; filled with laughter, learning, and memorable experiences.

Our Year 1 and 2 children had the magical experience of a pantomime trip. Year 5 pupils explored the historic Leeds Castle, creating lasting memories while discovering the rich heritage surrounding us. Meanwhile, the Year 6 students enjoyed a cinematic treat, bringing their learning to life on the big screen.

Our Year 5 pupils participated in a Victorian immersive workshop which  transported them back in time, providing a hands-on experience of historical life that was both educational and entertaining. It's moments like these that make learning truly come alive, and we are grateful for the opportunity to engage our pupils in such enriching activities.

Even Lavender has been on a trip! She went on a journey to India, where she celebrated Diwali and deepened her understanding of different cultures. All these experiences are invaluable in fostering a global perspective and encouraging curiosity and open-mindedness.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to each of you for your support, dedication, and enthusiasm throughout the term. It is the collective effort of our school community that makes these experiences so special and impactful.

Wishing you all a wonderful festive break filled with joy, love, and precious moments with family and friends.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday, 3rd January 2024, for another exciting term filled with new adventures!

Miss White | Principal

Our kitchen staff has showcased their exceptional talent and festive spirit by crafting a charming sleigh with a team of gingerbread reindeer and mini houses. This delightful masterpiece has graced the main reception area, becoming a whimsical focal point for children and visitors alike. The level of detail in the gingerbread creation is truly remarkable, a testament to the skill and dedication of our kitchen team.  We're grateful for our talented kitchen staff, whose creativity and efforts have brought smiles to the faces of our school community

Year R

This term the fire brigade came into school to give us a fire safety talk.

We have been working hard practising the songs for our Nativity. We were really excited that our families were invited to watch. Some of us dressed up in costumes and we all told the story of 'The First Christmas' through song.

We all had so much fun at our Christmas party this week!

Merry Christmas everyone !

Year 1

This term, Year 1 have been learning about the Christmas story through lots of different mediums. We have read, re written and acted out the story during our RE lessons. In art, we decorated Christmas stars using important people from the story.  As a culmination of all our work, we practised songs as part of our nativity 'A little bird told me' which we loved being able to share with our parents, and it told the Christmas story from a flock of birds persepctive.

Year 2

We have had a really good term learning about festivals and celebrations and the ways in which different people observe these. We all had a great time at the pantomime which was a lovely way to start the festive season. It was lovely joining with year one to perform 'A little bird told me' we worked hard to learn the songs, remember our lines and act out our own version of the Nativity.

Year 3

This term year 3 inquired into the central idea of 'shelters are a basic human right'. Through our inquiry of this central idea, we have focused on how our past ancestors during the stone age period would have survived, as well as the technological and cultural developments they made that have shaped how our society runs today.

Year 4

In Year 4 this term our central idea was, different cultures may celebrate occasions in different ways. Year 4 spent one morning a week in the training kitchen making traditional food from a range of religions. In Design and Technology lessons pupils had the opportunity to make fruit and vegetables out of clay when looking at Harvest. In history, we have looked at Ancient Egypt and what life was like during this time. Year 4 have been going swimming this has helped to build their confidence in the water.

Year 5

In Nightingale Class this term we have enjoyed a learning packed term. We visited Leeds Castle to learn about how the castle has been used over the years by a range of royal families and experienced the castle being turned into the world of Narnia. We also had the opportunity to become civil engineers and build a cable-stayed bridge in the school hall, which was an extension of our learning about bridges and has enabled us to improve our own bridge designs. We began learning about the Victorians, with a focus on a Victorian Christmas and participated in a workshop exploring life as a Victorian at Christmas and learning all about the traditions that were started then which we continue to use today. We also became archeologists and dived into the history of the Mayans in preparation for learning lots more about them later in the year. It has been a busy but enjoyable term for us.

Year 6

In Hawk Class, students have delved into the historical landscape of World War II, immersing themselves in the study of this pivotal period. To enhance their understanding, the class embarked on a hands-on project, constructing Anderson Shelters in their gardens. This hands-on experience not only brought history to life but also provided a unique perspective on the challenges faced by people during wartime. Through this educational activity, Hawk Class not only gained knowledge about World War II but also developed a deeper appreciation for the resilience and resourcefulness of those who lived through it.

Osprey Class has also embarked on an historical learning journey, exploring the causes of World War II and the consequences of human decisions and actions. They have explored and considered the wide reaching impact of this pivotal time in our planet history, looking closely at the human cost of war and the far reaching economic global impacts. As part of the learning experience, the children explored the poem the imagery and meaning of the famous  poem, In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, allowing them to gain a greater understanding of the human perspective of war. They then when on to create their own versions of the poem, following the structure and pattern of the original poem.
