Message from Miss White

As we approach the end of the first term of the academic year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the fantastic things our pupils have achieved this term at Tree Tops Primary Academy! It's been brilliant to see how hard they've worked and the progress they've made. Huge thanks to our dedicated teachers and to the whole school community for making it happen.

Our school rules, "Be Kind, Work Hard, Expect the Best," continue to make such an impact. Our pupils show incredible kindness, not just to each other, but to everyone around them. We continuously receive comments following school trips about how well the children have behaved and what a credit they are to us.

In the classroom, our pupils have been putting in serious effort, and we have enjoyed celebrating their achievements  in assembly each week. I am particularly proud that teachers have praised so many children for their excellent attitude to learning.

Thank you so much to the parents for their support and for attending our recent parent-teacher appointments. Your involvement is key to our children’s success. You will have seen that we have started to produce lots of information leaflets for you to help you with supporting your child’s learning.

I'm looking forward to the next term and all the amazing opportunities it will bring. Thanks again, everyone, for your hard work and support!

Wishing you all a wonderful break!

Miss White | Principal

Year 1

Year 1 have had a fabulous start to the year, We have been using maps to identify places in our school, learning about grouping animals, and the human body in science, and we went on a great trip to little street to explore different roles within our community to link with our inquiry 'I am part of a community'. We are practising our writing everyday, and we have been learning how to add numbers together up to 10. We have been very busy!

Year2

Year 2 has had a busy start to the school year! We began this term with a fantastic , fun filled carnival day. We have learnt lots about place value in maths,

where in the world we live and have enjoyed creating our own stories inspired by the 'Funny Bones' books. The amazing weather we have had has allowed us to spend a lot of time outdoors exploring our environment. To end this term we have carried out an investigation to answer the question ' is the tallest person always the oldest person?' The children enjoyed visiting other year groups to test out their theories.

Year 3

Blackbird & Magpie

This term our learning has been based around the theme of 'who we are', and the central idea of 'living things depend on nutrients for survival'. Year 3 investigated what nutritional content is needed in a human diet, as well as a variety of animal diets. With our understanding of nutrition, we learnt and compared human, animal skeletons, as well as muscular systems. We deepened our knowledge of animals, and nutrition with our trip to Port Lympne, and studied activist Jane Goodall to help us gain an awareness and understanding of how to better protect and support endangered animals habitats.

Year 4

Kestrel

In term 1 Kestrel class have been learning about animals and their habitats and what impact we have on the environment. They have built bug hotels and made bird feeders to provide shelter and food for animals in their habitat. Kestrels' class have also been learning about Ancient Egypt and the river Nile, looking at how important the river Nile was in the day to day life of the people that lived in Egypt. During our maths lesson we have been learning how to add and subtract 4 digit numbers, as well as working on all out times tables. Kestrel class have enjoyed learning how to say hello, how are you, numbers and colours in Spanish.

Year 5

Nightingale Class

In Nightingale Class this term we have delved into the history of the Industrial Revolution in Britain; compared the life cycles of different types of animals and plants and learned about the physical and human features of Europe. We have enjoyed learning about a Victorian detective named Young Sherlock and are in the midst of writing our own detective stories set in that era. In music, we have looked at music by the Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, depicting a journey of a steam train. In DT, we have explored bridges and engineering, which was prominent in the Industrial Revolution, and have designed and begun building our own wooden bridges using the knowledge we have acquired.

Year 6

Hawk Class

Hawk Class have been learning about the environment with a focus on plastic and air pollution. We have been learning about the impacts that this has on our world and how we have a large part to play in this. Furthermore, we have been learning about classifying animals and plants through identifying their unique features. This led on to our studies into the famed American artist Georgia O'keeffe. We tried a range of techniques to look at plants up close and understand the motivations of the artist. Lastly, we have been learning how to read and interpret Ordnance Survey maps. We have been learning how to read their six-figure grid references and identify distances on them as well as their unique symbols.

Osprey Class

In Osprey Class, we have been exploring concepts related to environmental changes, both within the local area and more globally. As part of our inquiry we considered the consequences and wider impacts of the Deep water Horizon disaster, in 2010. We've also being exploring the text 'The Story of Captain Nemo' by Dave Eggers, an adventure that examines the impact humans have on the planet and the consequences of our actions.
