Accessibility and Inclusion

It is important to recognise and minimise those at risk of exclusion from learning and seek to make adaptations and offer support to include them. We should aim to remove any unnecessary barriers that make it harder for students to engage and take part in learning. LAT are planning to address this by providing all pupils in Y6 to Y11 with access to a Chromebook ensuring continued access to learning and enhancing the educational experience for our pupils. Academies should consider their approach to students who do not have internet access at home. Some suggestions are to teach students how to utilise the offline working features of Google, and to consider before/after school homework clubs. The contributors to this document have provided the following suggestions to ensure inclusion and accessibility:

  • Use of Google classroom to set adapted tasks to different learners

  • Use of pre recorded videos of modelling and scaffolding shared with students who need more scaffolding

  • Abridged and adapted text resources shared with learners with low reading ages

  • Docs/Slides/Sheets zoom functions

  • Voice typing in Google Docs

  • Closed captions in Slides, Meet and YouTube

  • Google Translate in Gmail, Docs and Chrome Extension

  • Offline working

  • Read and Write
