Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Marcus Rashford & Walt Disney

During this Module, we have had fun learning French with Mr Rudkin. We can now count to 10 in French and we are able to say what our favourite colour is!

We have been lucky enough to have Mr Paton come in and teach us basketball every week. We have had fun playing competitions against each other to see who could score the most goals.

Mr Ireland has been coming in weekly to teach us how to play the ocarina. We have had lots of fun discussing how to play different notes and the different techniques we can use to play some lovely pieces of music!

In school this week, we had an external visitor come in and show us how to make our own Christmas Baubles. We had lots of fun getting messy and showing how we can make our own unique snowman!

In DT, we have made our own rainforest! We worked in small groups to come up with some ideas of how to make a realistic rainforest. We are very pleased with the results!

Oliver Jeffers

Oliver Jeffers class have had a busy term preparing for their nativity which they performed twice this week to the school and to their families. Their performances were spectacular and they performed with confidence, remembering all of their lines and singing beautifully. We have also been continuing with our phonics learning and the children have begun writing some excellent letters to Father Christmas using their phonetic knowledge - it is amazing to see the progress they have made since September.

Bauble Workshop

This week, we welcomed a specialist outdoor company who came in to work with our children in Year R - 6 to design and decorate their own ceramic Christmas bauble. The children enjoyed creating a great keepsake for them to have to put up on their Christmas trees and to keep for the future. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the PEPA PTA as they have contributed funds which enabled this wonderful workshop to take place and for us to offer the baubles at a reduced cost to parents, which was very appreciated.

Staffing Update

At the end of this term, we will be saying goodbye to Miss Zeuli and Mr Sullivan-Stanley as they leave their teaching roles here at Peninsula East. We would like to take the opportunity to thank them both for their contributions to the school during their time here. They have had great impact working with not only the classes they have taught, but also across the school with their leadership of MFL, Writing and Maths. We wish them well in their next steps.

From January, Mr Dyson will be leading Year 5 and Miss Heard will be working in Year 6. We look forward to welcoming Mr Dyson to our team soon as he joins us just before Christmas to get to know Year 5.

Becoming a Thrive School

Some of you may be aware that within school we are starting to implement the Thrive Approach.

Thrive is a systematic approach to the early identification of emotional developmental need in children so that differentiated provision can be put in place quickly by the adults working most closely with the child. It is preventative, reparative, pragmatic and easy to use.

There are four guiding principles of the Thrive Approach:

◊ Every child is a unique person, constantly developing and learning in different ways and at different rates, each with his/her ownabilities, talents and potential to be fulfilled.

◊ Children’s healthy development, emotional well-being and learning are crucially dependent upon, and promoted through, positive relationships.

◊ Children flourish when they are confident, self-assured, capable and resilient.

◊ Children thrive in enabling environments, in which their individual development, learning experiences and needs are understood, responded to and and supported through strong partnerships with parents/carers.

Thrive Profiling

Within school, all pupils have been profiled by their class teachers (Nursery children will be completed shortly). From this activity, the teachers will be able to choose pre-planned activities that will help their pupils progress further with their emotional development.

Some children may receive small group or 1:1 work with our THRIVE practitioners (Miss Heard and Miss Purvis) to complete activities .

If you would like to speak to us about the THRIVE approach or the interventions linked to this, please arrange a time to speak with Mrs Drogomirecki.
