This term our central idea has been; “Products go through a process before they are consumed”. Based around that idea the children looked at The Little Hen story and made bread to taste and created a fence for our farm animals.
They also looked at the famous artist “Giuseppe Arcimboldo" and created imaginative portrait heads made out of fruits and vegetables.
Captain Sir Thomas Class
In Year 5 we have been exploring how organisations are created to respond to a need. Through this, we have been looking at Earth and Space and the ongoing missions to Mars. We have used our core text ‘Curiosity: the story of the Mars Rover’ to help us understand how an organisation like NASA has been created to help us investigate the universe around us. We have spent this week writing a setting description of Mars’ surface from the perspective of Curiosity, the Mars Rover. We have also been part of an online workshop on Mars Day, which helped the children to further understand our inquiry. As part of our transdisciplinary learning, we have also been creating a Google Sheet to demonstrate the statistics of the Space Race in the 20th Century.
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Light Workshop
On Monday 14th March, Year 2 visited the local church to attend a workshop all about Light led by Jeremy from the Guildhall Museum. We found out lots of information about light and explored how light was made in the past. We looked at candles, lanterns, the magic box and many more. We even saw what policemen in the past used as a light source. After that, we created our own stained glass windows, modelled on what we could see at the church.
