Well done to Oliver Jeffers class for having the best attendance this week in EYFS and KS1. In KS2 this week there is a draw with both Malala Yousafzai and Ian Rose classes winning for best attendance so congratulations to both classes! Our attendance is improving but we need to be aiming for at least 96%.

This week, our Year 2 students have been on a really interesting journey as we started our second line of inquiry: empathy and how it impacts our actions. We’ve been talking all about what it means to truly understand how others feel and how that might guide us to make changes in the ways we do or say things.
A big part of this has been looking at the history of animals in circuses. We've learned about how animals were used for entertainment and thought about what their lives might have been like. This naturally led us to talk about animal rights activists and the changes that have happened to protect animals. We have started to use our debating skills, considering arguments for and against using animals for entertainment.
It's been wonderful to see the children think deeply about these topics. They’ve been putting themselves in the "paws" of the animals and considering why people felt so strongly about protecting them. We've had great chats about fairness, kindness, and how our choices can affect everyone around us, even those who can't speak for themselves. Their growing understanding of empathy has been truly heartwarming!
We are in the middle of creating a powerful piece of collaborative artwork, taking our own actions to support animal welfare. We can't wait to share it when we're finished.
Sports day
What a fantastic Sports Day we had today! It was truly inspiring to see such incredible displays of good sportsmanship and enthusiastic team spirit from all our pupils. Every single child took part in the events, giving it their all and demonstrating amazing resilience. It was wonderful to watch them cheer each other on, celebrate successes, and never give up, even when faced with challenges. Their determination was a credit to them all!
The children thoroughly enjoyed all the activities, from the competitive tennis ball relay and the classic egg and spoon race, to trying out the new equipment. As one pupil enthusiastically put it, "Wow, Sports Day was so fun! My favourite part was having a go at using the new javelins."
We extend a huge thank you to all the parents and guardians who came along to support the children and create such a vibrant atmosphere. Your cheers and encouragement made the day even more special.
A special note of gratitude goes to our amazing PTFA for their invaluable support throughout Sports Day. Their hard work ensured everything ran smoothly, contributing significantly to the day's success.
It was a brilliant day of healthy competition, teamwork, and fun for everyone involved. We're already looking forward to next year!
At PEPA, we pride ourselves on being 'Reflective' learners – it's one of our key Learner Profile Attributes. Our children engage in reflection every single day, deepening their understanding of their learning journey.
Each Friday at 2:45 PM, pupils and teachers collaborate on a weekly reflection session. During these sessions, we prompt children with questions like: "What is our Transdisciplinary Theme?", "Which Lines of Inquiry have we studied?", "Which Approaches to Learning did you use?", and "How did you show agency this week?".
Pupils also complete a Reflection Ticket for a piece of their work from that week. This consistent practice allows us to track pupil progress throughout the term, providing regular opportunities for them to connect their learning across subjects and themes.
To culminate each module, children create a 'one-pager' reflection, thoughtfully summarising their achievements and insights. This systematic approach truly embeds reflective practice into the heart of our academy, fostering curious, self-aware learners.
