We are thrilled to share that Year 1 has had a brilliant start to Module 6! Our learning journey has taken a colourful turn as we dive into the world of Vincent van Gogh. We've been exploring his iconic works, especially the beautiful "Sunflowers" and "Starry Night". The children have truly enjoyed experimenting with brush strokes, trying to replicate Van Gogh's unique style. It’s incredible to see their creativity come to life on paper!
In addition to our art exploration, we have been engaging in fantastic writing activities inspired by our class novel, "Dogs Don’t Do Ballet". The children have had the opportunity to think of their own animals and the talents they might have. It has certainly brought about some delightful imaginings—who would have thought an elephant could play football? The laughter we've shared while discussing these ideas has been wonderful for building our classroom community.
In science, we’ve been looking at the parts of a plant. The children have planted sunflower seeds and are excited to see their growth! It’s wonderful to connect our learning about Van Gogh with the actual sunflowers we are nurturing.
As we progress through this final module in Year 1, we are brimming with excitement for the activities still to come.
Over the past modules, our students across different year groups have embarked on fascinating geographical journeys, exploring everything from the fiery depths of our planet to the intricacies of human impact on our local environment and beyond!
Year 3 has been shaking things up, quite literally, as they delved into the Earth's layers and the powerful forces of tectonic plates. They've become experts on how earthquakes and volcanoes are formed, identifying the awe-inspiring Ring of Fire. Our young geographers have also been busy classifying different types of volcanoes. A powerful case study on Mount Vesuvius helped them understand how communities demonstrate incredible resilience in the face of natural disasters – truly connecting their learning to our central idea of overcoming disaster to support human resilience.
Our Year 4 students have been exploring the incredible diversity of biomes and ecosystems within the UK. They took a deep dive into our local area of Allhallows, comparing its unique characteristics to the beautiful New Forest. In an exciting cross-curricular link, they've been using their computing skills to collect and analyse geographical data, proving that geography is as much about data as it is about discovery!
Year 5 has been seeing the world from a new perspective – from space! They've been busy developing their map skills and observing how our land looks from above. Their focus has been on understanding land use and how it changes over time, with a particular emphasis on our very own local area of Allhallows. They've truly become local landscape detectives!
Year 6 is tackling big questions about the sustainability of the UK's economic activity. After learning how crucial aspects like transport, healthcare, and sustainable waste management impact our nation's economy, they are now hard at work presenting this vital information. Their work highlights the interconnectedness of geography, economics, and our future.
Our youngest geographers in Year 1 have been busy exploring maps and aerial views of our local area. They've shown fantastic teamwork by collaborating to build a puzzle of an aerial view of Allhallows – a brilliant way to understand their surroundings. They've also been learning to identify key physical and human features on a map, expertly recapping what these important terms mean.
Year 2 has been brilliantly integrating their geography skills into their history and English lessons while learning about the Great Fire of London. They've had valuable opportunities to look at maps of London in the past and compare how they have changed over time in relation to the disaster. This has provided them with a fascinating insight into how historical events shape our urban landscapes.
It's been a term filled with exciting discoveries and practical learning in Geography! Well done to all our students for their hard work and enthusiasm!
Beyond the fantastic costumes and shared stories in classrooms during World Book Day earlier this year, our children eagerly embraced a wonderful opportunity to unleash their inner authors and poets by taking part in a trust-wide creative writing competition. We had a large number of entries, and our trust's curriculum advisors had the challenging task of judging the incredible submissions.
A huge congratulations to our talented winners, Their achievements are a testament to their creativity and the passion for writing fostered right here in our school. Well done to everyone who took part – every single entry showed fantastic effort!
Winner - Sienna G
Joint 2nd - Vinnie M & Izzy H
Joint 3rd - Zoha Z & Nikolaos L

Year 6 Residential
Year 6 had a fantastic time at Bowles activity centre for their residential this week. They showed brilliant team work skills, resilience and confidence when trying new activities. They took part in rock climbing, skiing, low ropes, bushcraft, pool kayaking, archery and team work skills! On one of the evenings, we enjoyed stories and games around a campfire whilst toasting marshmallows. The children showed great independence with getting themselves ready each day and all really enjoyed themselves. It was a great time away to celebrate their hard work and determination that they've shown this year with completing their SATs and getting ready for secondary school.
We will be sharing more photos towards the end of the year so that children can keep them for their memories and the Year 6 team will update parents when this is ready.
