We have continued our focus of 'conflict' this term and have moved on from WWI to WWII. Within our lines of inquiry, we will be understanding how organisations at the time worked to keep people mentally and physically healthy. We will also be looking at what women did to keep the country going whilst men were away fighting.
In Writing, we have been using a book called Rose Blanche, which links to our learning around World War Two and have written some lovely character descriptions, a setting description and we will be moving on to writing a narrative next week.
Year 6 are also working extremely hard this term in preparation for the approaching SATs tests in May. They have been fantastic at ensuring they are focused during their learning time and are becoming more confident with answering questions quickly. We are completing our Mock SATs week next week and will share data with parents by the end of term so you have full insight into your child's progress so far.
Year 1 trip to Bodiam Castle
Year 1 had an incredible day exploring Bodiam Castle! It was exciting to see how the castle was built.
The highlight of our trip was definitely climbing the 56 stairs to the top of the tower. The views were amazing and the children loved seeing the fields and the moat around the castle.
The class loved exploring the greenery and field surrounding the castle, as well as the moat. We were shocked to see the ruins from the inside of the castle.
To make our exploration even more exciting, we completed a spot and hunt of all the different features of a castle. It was interesting to see an arrow slit close up The children were eager to find different features around the castle, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork.
Author Visit: Gareth P Jones
On Thursday 13th March, we were lucky enough to have a visit from the amazing well-known author Gareth P Jones, all thanks to Medway Libraries.
Gareth brought the fun with him, showing off his musical skills on the piano and ukulele. The children were absolutely hooked as he played some funky tunes, turning the assembly into a lively concert. His knack for mixing music with storytelling made it such a great experience.
Throughout his time with us, Gareth shared his journey as an author and how cool it is to read and write. His passion really inspired the children, sparking their imaginations and making them eager to dive into more books and even try writing their own stories. You could see the buzz in the air—the children left the assembly full of new ideas and excitement. We can't thank Gareth P Jones and Medway Libraries enough for such an incredible day that truly motivated our young readers!
