This week, we have engaged in a variety of enriching activities across subjects. In Science, students have designed and started to create their own model solar systems, fostering both creativity and understanding of astronomical concepts.
Additionally, we celebrated our Careers Fair, which provided invaluable insights into various professions, enhancing students' awareness of future opportunities. We were also fortunate to have an inspiring author visit that ignited enthusiasm for reading and writing.
In Mathematics, we have focused on decimals, reinforcing foundational skills that are crucial for future mathematical concepts. Overall, it has been a productive week of learning.
Ian Rose Class
Our science lesson this week was a fantastic exploration of why space is spherical, focusing on the theories behind the shape of the Earth. The children showed great enthusiasm as they engaged in discussions and activities that sparked their curiosity about the universe.
In art and design technology, we had a lot of fun using paper mache to create a 3D model of one planet in the solar system. The children loved getting messy as they began the first part of creating a 3D solar system.
We also took a local trip to learn about land use in our community. The students had the chance to observe and discuss how different areas are used, which tied in nicely with what we’ve been learning in geography. This real-world experience deepened their understanding and made the topic come alive.
CAREERS FAIR 2025
To celebrate our Careers Day here at Peninsula East, we held our third Careers Fair! The children had a fantastic time being able to work around the hall whilst each company, organisation and representative had a stall showcasing their jobs and roles within a vast range of job sectors. We were also very fortunate to have local businesses in, so that the children could also develop an understanding of the local economy and the needs of our community. In the morning, we also had an author and representative from the Fire Brigade who came to speak to the children about their work.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all of the companies and individuals that gave up their time to support with this, it was a fantastic experience for all children involved and will no doubt support their understanding of career paths and vocations as they progress through our school but also in their next stage of education.
We would like to thank:

British Science Week 2025
This week, we celebrated British Science Week 2025.
British Science Week is a celebration of all things science, technology, engineering, and mathematical (STEM). It's a wonderful opportunity to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. This year's theme is 'Change and Adapt'. It has encouraged children to think about how animals, technology and humans have developed over time.
It has been great to see the children participating in some hands on science learning, such as the Year 5s who made their very own solar system to support their learning about space and space travel. Our Nursery class were even spotted conducting investigations with colours and patterns in their food colouring/ milk experiment!
Year 2 MMA Choral Festival
Huge congratulations to the Year 2 class who participated in the Medway Music Association choral festival this week.
The choral festival, hosted in The Central Theatre, welcomed many different primary schools around Medway to come together to sing as a choir. Our Year 2 children worked hard to practise all the songs, especially our solo song. Thank you to all the parents and carers (our biggest fans!) who helped the children to attend and cheered us on. The children left the theatre feeling incredibly proud of themselves, definitely an experience to remember!
On behalf of Family Food Bank, we’re launching our Easter Appeal to ensure that no child or family in our community goes without food during the holiday. We’d love your school’s support in collecting essential food items and Easter treats for those in need.
This year we have included a ‘Eggsellent Easter Hunt’ to engage children in understanding the importance of giving, and the social impact they can have on others in their community. I have attached 5 ‘chick-lists’ containing different food items we are in need of at the food bank. Children can take a list and tick off the items as they find them in the shops or at home, and donate them back to the food bank.
You can also help by organising a fundraising event – for example a non-uniform day, bake sale, or Easter egg hunt could make a big difference. You can find us on JustGiving here: www.justgiving.com/childrenandfamilies
Should any families need our support this Easter, please direct them to their nearest distribution centre. We work in partnership with local organisations who act as distribution centres, they can be found on our website here: www.familyfoodbank.org/medway-ffb.html
