Year 6 have had a brilliant term with their learning! They have really engaged with their central idea "people use technology to develop society" and have been linking this idea to creations that were developed during WWI that still have an impact today. These creations include ideas such as wristwatches, drones, and kleenex tissues! The children have completed their own research around different areas of WWI and used brilliant self-management skills to expand their own understanding.
In Writing this term, we have written setting descriptions about the trenches and a shipwreck, a formal letter as a secret spy and a letter home as a WWI soldier. In Maths, we are continuing to revise our understanding of the 4 operations, linked to fractions, decimals and percentages and our confidence in Maths as a class is growing hugely!
We've also been enjoying Cricket in PE and have worked hard to improve our bowling skills. We are looking forward to continuing our learning of conflict in history next term as we move onto WWII!
Children's Mental Health Week
This week, we’re thrilled to have celebrated Children's Mental Health Week! Our incredible Year 6 Well-being Champions and House Captains had the amazing opportunity to attend an event at the Rochester Corn Exchange, where they engaged in a variety of activities focused on both physical and mental health. 🏃♂️✨
In addition to this, our Year 6 pupils participated in a thought-provoking workshop with Kooth, exploring important aspects of emotional well-being and self-care. It was a fantastic way for our students to understand the significance of looking after their mental health and supporting each other. 🧠🤝
We are so proud of our young leaders for representing our school and promoting positive mental health within our community. Together, we are encouraging everyone to talk about their feelings and seek help when needed! 💭❤️
✨NSPCC Number Day✨
We celebrated Number Day on Friday 7th February to raise money for the NSPCC!
Everything the NSPCC does protects children today and prevents abuse tomorrow. The NSPCC need our support more than ever. By raising money, we can help to fund their vital services such as Childline – the helpline that’s always there for children and young people whatever their problem or concern. On average, a child contacts Childline every 45 seconds.
You can find out more about the NSPCC’s work at nspcc.org.uk

Medway Council is supporting national Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from Monday, 3 February to Sunday, 9 February.
This year’s theme is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ and we have an exciting event taking place at the corn exchange to help us celebrate with various schools signed up. Keep an eye out later in the year for events report to see what took place.
Place2Be’s website has a number of fantastic resources to help celebrate including downloadable packs for schools and community organisations, for different ages:

To help you plan your mental health and wellbeing delivery for the term ahead, Anna Freud has also produced it’s next calendar of curriculum themes and occasions linked to mental health.
Medway has a range of in person and online support for children and young people, including Kooth and B.R.A.V.E. We have also been working to update our child mental health poster and commissioned services flyer.
Kooth is an online service which offers mental health and wellbeing support for young people aged between 10 and 25-years-old. Children and young people can use the instant messaging service to access counsellors, join drop-in sessions or schedule a session. They are also able to read and contribute to articles about mental health, access peer support through moderated forums and use the online journals and goal trackers to support their wellbeing.
B.R.A.V.E is a new service which provides short-term one-to-one or group therapy for those experiencing low mood, anxiety of self-harming behaviours. These sessions are available both in person or online and can be accessed by those aged between five and 18-years-old, or up to 25-years-old for care leavers or those with special educational needs. B.R.A.V.E also offers targeted workshops for young people, parents and carers and working professionals.
As well as support tailored to children and young people, residents of all ages can access support in Medway. Anyone who is feeling distressed, anxious or down can call use the Release the Pressure service to speak to highly trained support workers who will provide emotional guidance and information.
Release the Pressure is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can call on 0800 107 0160, or text the word “Shout” TO 85258 to access the support on offer. Texts are free on all major mobile networks.
