Steve Backshall Class
Steve Backshall Class has had a wonderful first week back after the Christmas break getting to know their new teacher, Miss Partridge, and exploring their line of inquiry for this module.
To start this module, the children have been reading and analysing 'Grandad's Island'. This core text has helped us explore different word classes, such as nouns, verbs and adjectives.
The children have also been working scientifically to group and classify living and non-living things. We have been very excited to learn how animals depend on their habitats for survival. For PSHE, we have been deepening our understanding of what a community is and exploring all the different types of communities we might be part of.
Celebrating Writing at PEPA
At PEPA, we want to highlight the tremendous amount of effort, creativity and skills children have shown in their writing. It's exciting to see children exploring different styles, from poetry to short stories, and truly enjoying the process. We’re also thrilled to invite parents to join us for creative writing workshops next week. This will be a great chance for parents to work alongside their children and inspire each other in their writing adventures. We believe that encouraging a love for writing not only boosts literacy skills but also helps bring our school community closer together. Together, we’re building a culture that celebrates the joy of writing and nurtures the talents of our future authors.
Writing in Early Years and Year 1
We have been very impressed with the level of skill and creativity our younger children have demonstrated within their writing since joining the school. In Early Years and Year 1, children continue to be taught daily phonics as the means to which they learn to write words and sentences. Children within the early years in particular then have opportunities to write within their child initiated time - many children choosing to write in the context of making each other cards, writing letters or making notes in the doctor's surgery!
