Anti Bullying Week - Choose Respect
Anti-Bullying Week 2024 will take place from Monday 11th - Friday 15th November, with the theme: Choose Respect. The theme of 'Choose Respect' has come about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance which coordinates Anti-Bullying Week every year. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes. This Anti-Bullying Week we urge adults and children alike to come together to have discussions about what we mean by bullying behaviour (including cyber bullying), how we can tell the difference between ‘banter’ and bullying and how we can make changes to reduce bullying. Together, we can make a difference if we make a noise to stop bullying. During the week children across the school will participate in an anti-bullying week assembly. They may wish to discuss this with you when they get home. If you have any concerns, please do discuss these with your child's class teacher.
A Stone Age Fire!
As many of you will know, last term, Year 3 learned all about The Stone Age! To fully immerse themselves in the Stone Age life, all children were able to take part in building a real fire! They then toasted marshmallows on twigs and made delicious s’mores! The children had a brilliant time and really embraced the caveman lifestyle! I also want to say a massive shout out to Miss Jacob’s and Mrs Costa for being there to help with building and managing the fire! We couldn’t have done it without you :)

What is safeguarding?
Members of staff, parents/carers and visitors who come on to our school premises have a duty of care towards the welfare and safety of the children who attend our schools.
This is called Safeguarding.
Every child can potentially be hurt, put at risk from harm or abused regardless of their age, gender, religion, ethnicity or disability.
Safeguarding means that:
Children are protected from mistreatment
A child’s health or development is protected
Children grow up with safe and effective care
Action is taken to ensure the best outcomes for all children
Safeguarding is the action we take to promote the welfare of children in our care and to protect them from harm.
Child Protection
This is the process of protecting children who may be suffering from or at risk of suffering harm. This includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and emotional harm. Child protection promotes the rights and welfare of all children. Our schools have staff members who are trained to manage any child protection concerns. In addition, the Designated Safeguarding Lead is responsible for making referrals to Children’s Social Care with, or without parental permission if seeking permission may put the child at further risk of significant harm or interfere with a police investigation.
School will refer all allegations or concerns that a child has been or is likely to be abused or neglected to Social Care. School will also consult with other agencies when it has concerns that a child may have been abused or neglected.
Parents and carers are encouraged to come into the school and speak to a Designated Safeguarding Lead or safeguarding team if they have any concerns regarding the welfare of one of our pupils.
Our team is dedicated to supporting you and can be reached during normal working hours during term time.
Telephone: 01634 270428
Outside of normal working hours 8:30am – 4pm or outside of term time please visit the Medway Social services website or dial 999 for emergency services. You can also contact Medway Children’s social services on 01634334466 or their out of hours contact is 03000419191.

Confidentiality
Information from parents about possible child abuse cannot be kept confidential. Information and records about children will be given only to those people who need it to keep a child safe and will be kept strictly confidential by them.
Partnership:
The DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) will inform parents of any concerns about their children, providing it does not compromise the pupil’s safety, and will help and support them as necessary. We recognise and are committed to our responsibility to work with other professionals and agencies to both ensure children’s needs are met and to protect them from harm. We will endeavour to identify those children and families who may benefit from the intervention and support of external professionals and will seek to enable referrals (in discussion with parents and carers) as appropriate.
Prevention:
We will take positive action to prevent children suffering abuse and neglect through the development of an open culture that informs children of their rights and encourages them to speak about any concerns. We will also address the issue of children’s safety through the curriculum. Our staff will support families with any challenges that they are facing to empower the adults in making good choices for themselves and their families.
All of our policies linked to safeguarding are available to access via the school website - https://pepa.org.uk/safeguarding/
The NCPCC website is a good resource for parents/carers to educate themselves and their children about keeping safe. Visit their website at www.nspcc.org.uk
