The Year 3 class have been working hard in Module 2 and are all super excited about Christmas being just around the corner!
The children have been rehearsing for the last few weeks for the KS2 Carol Concert, they are all super excited about performing to their parents and carers to share all their hard work. In English they have been looking at the story and short film of The Snowman and the Snowdog. They are using the story to write a descriptive narrative of the Snowman's flight over London to develop their expanded noun phrases and to use as many verbs, adverbs and prepositions as possible. In science the class have been learning about the life cycle of a flowering plant and they also carried out a practical experiment using flowers and food colouring to investigate how water is transported throughout plants. When the class returned from the weekend, they discovered that the flowers in the yellow food colouring had all turned different shades of yellow, however, the flowers in the blue food colouring hadn't changed colour at all!
In Year 4's Design and Technology lesson this week, the children enjoyed a hands-on food preparation activity where they practised two important knife skills: the claw and bridge holds. Using these techniques, they safely and confidently chopped a variety of vegetables, developing both their fine motor skills and understanding of kitchen safety. After all their hard work, the budding chefs had the chance to taste the food they prepared and took on the role of food critics, thoughtfully reviewing the presentation and taste. Future chefs and food critics in the making!
Nursery and Reception Nativity
On Friday, our wonderful Nursery and Reception children performed, what was for many of them, their first Nativity, having already performed it to the school earlier in the week. They had learnt their lines brilliantly and their costumes were superb. They sang loudly and clearly for all to hear and put on an unforgetable performance. Miss Hartung and Miss Burchfield were especially impressed with how confident they were and how hard they worked - it is sometimes easy to forget most of them are only 4 years old! It was, in the word's of Ava (Year 1) a "masterpiece".
Eco-warriors Club
Last academic year, some of our children in KS2 attended an Eco-Warriors club with Mrs Rimmer. The children set about researching and making positive changes to impact our environment within the school and the local community. The children were really eager to investigate about the impact of car fumes if when at drop off and home time, visitors and parents are leaving their engines running. The children researched this and were very passionate about communicating this with our families. They made posters either virtually or using their artistic skills and asked whether we could put these up on the gates for our community to see. Kindly, Allhallows Parish council said that they would create the posters into a banner for the children. Whilst, we couldn't fit all of the wonderful posters on it, our Eco-Warriors are proud to show off their banner and for this to be hung proudly on the school gates for all to see! Well done to all of the children that attended the club and thank you to the Allhallows Parish council for their support.
