Year 6 have been enjoying their learning so far this term! Our central idea is understanding how environmental issues may shape lives and within that we are exploring the idea of conflict around the environment. We have been looking to the past and learning about the Industrial Revolution in History and examining how the introduction of factories changed lives for the better and the repercussions this also had. Linking to environment issues, in Geography, we have been exploring flooding and relating this to real world issues such as the recent floods in Valencia, Spain. We have been reading Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick and have enjoyed looking at character descriptions in more depth, writing diary entries, letters and now we are currently planning and writing our own ending to the story. In Maths, we have been busy getting to grips with fractions and are feeling a lot more confident with adding and subtracting mixed number fractions! In Music, the children have been learning Shadow music and in Computing, we have been looking at copyright with the plan to create and design our own websites!
Leigh Academies Trust Swimming Gala
It was a fantastic event that highlighted the skills and talents our children showcased and the values we aimed to instil throughout the day. It was an excellent opportunity for our children to demonstrate their hard work and perseverance in the pool. More importantly, they experienced the joy of being part of a team. Our swimmers supported one another throughout the day, cheered for their teammates, and celebrated each other's achievements.
Thank you for ensuring your child arrived promptly; this helped ensure everyone was prepared and settled before the events began. I also appreciated the healthy snacks and water that the children brought along.
Thank you for your continued support. Together, we helped our children thrive as swimmers and as fantastic teammates who uplifted those around them.
This week, the Year 4's delved into the fascinating world of teeth! As part of their science investigations, they explored the different types of teeth - incisors, canines, premolars, and molars - and their differing characteristics. To bring their learning to life, the students crafted detailed models of teeth using playdough, showcasing their creativity and understanding of how teeth work together to help us break down our food. Well done Year 4, for your hands-on approach to learning!
