As we approach the end of our current module, I wanted to take a moment to share the fantastic activities and achievements your children have accomplished during our 'All About Me' theme.
We started our journey by engaging in lively discussions about what makes each of us special. It was heart warming to see the children’s enthusiasm as they explored their unique qualities, sparking conversations that allowed them to express their identities.
In addition to this, we explored the history and wildlife of our local area. The highlight for many was our research of Slough Fort, where we uncovered fascinating facts about its significance in our community. The children worked exceptionally hard to learn about various animal groups, displaying a curious nature and eagerness to discover the animal features and exciting facts.
During our English lessons we have completed some writing based on the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Crocodiles.' The children produced some amazing pieces of writing.
I am immensely proud of all their hard work this module and I encourage them to continue this positive momentum.
Black History Month
While black history is celebrated year round, Black History Month is marked annually during the month of October. It recognises and values the inspirational individuals and events that have shaped the black generation. During Black History Month, we remember and celebrate the important people from the past and also those who contribute to and help our society today. In school, children have been learning about different individuals through assemblies and class learning time. This week, in assembly, we learnt about Garrett Morgan who was an American inventor who famously invented three-way traffic lights.
Children are never too young to learn about differences. We all have different backgrounds, appearances and come in different shapes and sizes. Just like speaking and counting, empathy and celebrating others' differences are social behaviours that are learnt in early childhood. In order to continue children's understanding of Black History Month at home, please see the below resources that contain lots of educational material to help support discussions:

Parent/Carer Anonymous Survey – ADHD Strength and Needs Led Support
We are inviting the Parents and Carers to complete this anonymous survey in relation to Strength and Needs Led Support. The deadline of this survey will be by 5th November 2024.
The survey aims to gather insights about:-
the main reasons parents and carers seek an autism or ADHD assessment for their child or young person
the challenges faced by families during the assessment process
inequities that may be experienced in accessing services
understand the barriers to accessing 'strengths and needs' led support for young people with or without a confirmed diagnosis.
Recorded Parent/Carer Workshops
I am delighted to be able to share a new set of recorded sessions for our Parents YouTube Channel.
The Child Health Team conducted an online parent/carer survey to seek views on our current workshop offer and ways in which we can improve the offer. Parents and Carers requested recorded sessions on puberty and sexual health. I am pleased to say that those topics are now available for Medway parents and carers to view online.
The new sessions are on:
Puberty and Growing Up
Sexual Health
The sessions can be accessed via our Child Health Parents YouTube Channel.
