Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Banksy

Year 2 have already had lots of fun within our history lessons by learning about explorers. We have learnt some new key vocabulary and many different items explorers may need, such as binoculars, maps, a compass and a coat. It was very fun to look through the binoculars, they were quite heavy!

Next, we became excellent investigators by looking at different clues to work out where in the world they have explored and if any equipment is needed for their travels. Then we gave predictions why we think they have explored this place. We had lots of fun guessing an astronaut, a deep sea diver and a mountaineer.

Year 6 have had a great start to Module 2! We have begun our learning about conflict, with a particular focus on WWII and the causes and consequences of this. So far, we have identified key events that happened during this period, how and when Britain and France declared war different types of air-raid shelters that were used.

We are using the book Rose Blanche in our Writing lessons which is about a german girl during WWII and have written a diary entry from her perspective of two parts of the story.

In Science, we are learning about light and have learnt that light travels in straight lines and light sources versus light reflectors. This week we made periscopes using cardboard and some mirrors!

We also really enjoyed the Diwali day and made some beautiful Rangoli patterns and performed a Bollywood dance to the rest of the school.

Diwali Celebrations

This week has been truly thrilling for the children.  On Monday, the 13th, they celebrated Diwali with a vibrant afternoon filled with diverse activities.  The afternoon  commenced with an engaging session exploring the historical significance and cultural importance of this festival.  Following this enlightening start, they immersed themselves in a lively dance workshop and a delightful tasting of traditional foods.

Later, the children unleashed their creativity through a delightful session of painting Diya lamps, infusing their designs with artistic flair. They brainstormed and designed unique Rangoli patterns, expressing their inventive ideas and artistic visions.

The day ended with a performance from YR5 and YR6, leaving everyone spellbound and marking the perfect conclusion to a day filled with learning, creativity, and celebration.

We would like to thank our wonderful PTA for their support and also to some of our parents who came in to help with the cooking, particularly to Mrs Kandeepan.

PYP Inquiries for Module 2

Each class has made a great start to their inquiries this term, covering lots of subjects from Art to RE already. Year 6 have begun exploring conflict through World War 2, Year 3 spent some time observing the different parts of a plant and Year R have been asking lots of questions to our adults in school about their jobs and thinking about how we work together. Take a look at our 'What we are learning about' board by the Office. Every term, we will update it with the new Knowledge Organiser for each class. Digital copies of these are available on the children's Class Pages on our website at: https://pepa.org.uk/classes/, so you can take a look and discuss children's learning with them at home.

Children in Need

It has been great to see so many of our children wearing Children in Need outfits, wearing spots or dressing as Pudsey bear! It has been a bright and colourful day and the children have had lots of fun. Even Arlo wore spots on his collar today!

Thanks to all of your kind donations we have managed to raise £126.90. This is fantastic!

Medway Survey

Below is a link to a very short survey asking Medway residents to comment on the availability of alcohol in Medway and giving them the opportunity to describe their experiences about the impact it has, for good or bad.

My public health colleagues would be very grateful if you could circulate the link a widely as possible within your contacts as this will form part of the evidence that will be used to support the alcohol licensing policy which restricts the granting of alcohol licences in areas of Medway.

Even if you are not a resident in Medway, you may wish to complete the survey with consideration to licensed premises near your school, the area in which your pupils live, or you workplace location.

Thank you for your support with this area of work.

************************************************************************

Background information

Licensed premises, such as pubs, bars, restaurants, and shops selling alcohol are an important part of Medway’s economy. However, in certain areas and circumstances, residents have reported that the number, type, and density of licensed premises have caused problems in the past. Examples of the issues reported include alcohol related crime, noise, litter, and anti-social behaviour.

Medway Council is responsible for granting licences for the sale of alcohol including for pubs, bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and off licences.

The Purpose of this survey

This is your opportunity to comment on the availability of alcohol in Medway and to describe your own experiences about the impact it has, for good or bad.

This information will allow us to present community views as part of the review of licensing policy in Medway.

This survey is voluntary, and you do not have to complete it. No personal details are required. Please do not include any details that may identify you.

This survey should only take you a couple of minutes, or less, to complete.

There are 9 questions in total – 8 are ticking boxes with the 9th a free text box if anyone wants to add anything in their own words. The survey is completely anonymous.

Anti-Bullying Week!

This week it is 'anti-bullying week' as a school we will be revisiting this later in the year, as we have had lots of activities happening recently. But we would like to share with you some information around bullying from the anti bullying alliance.

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The Anti-Bullying Alliance defines bullying as: “the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.“

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS BEING BULLIED?

You know your child best!

Look out for any changes in their behaviour – for example becoming quieter or withdrawn or acting out and getting in trouble. They may also be reluctant to go to school or take part in their usual activities, may become upset after using their phones or devices, or may complain of frequent unexplained illnesses like tummy upsets or headaches. You may also find that their sleep is disturbed, and they are showing signs of sadness or anxiety.

Your child may share with you that other people are unkind to them or have said or done things to hurt them. Always listen and take them seriously, consider the facts, and work with them on next steps. Children are developing physically, emotionally, and socially and need our help to understand how to behave towards others and when they have crossed a line. For example, children need to learn when teasing or ‘banter’ can become bullying behaviour (e.g. when it’s offensive and/or causes hurt).

For some children it may be particularly difficult to regulate their behaviour or actions, and they may need additional support. Others will be copying prejudicial or harmful behaviour they have learnt from others. It’s also common for children to have arguments and friendship fall outs and they will need our guidance to resolve conflict, make amends and move on.

Please remember every situation is different, and if you are not sure, always come and speak to us in school.
