Our whole school attendance has dipped this week and so we need to work towards more children being in school next week.

Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Benjamin Zephaniah

Year 6 have been inquiring into how beliefs and values of ancient civilisations have caused them to leave a lasting impact on areas around the world. So far, we have looked at the origins of the Ancient Mayans and where they lived, locating this on a map. We then found out about their beliefs and researched some of their Gods. After that, we looked at the Mayan creation story and then wrote our own stories, inventing our own Gods and how they would create the world. This week, we celebrated European day of Languages and made some Spanish tortilla chips and dips - they were delicious! Finally, we took part in the Great Big Green Week and tidied the Year 6 area in the playground, demonstrating great teamwork and communication skills.

PEPA Tots

This term our inquiry has been on exploring our senses. Children had different foods to taste. They tasted honey, salt, lemon, pepper, lavender, grapefruit and cinnamon.

All of them were risk-takers and tried all the food. Well done to everyone.

As we were also celebrating European Day of Language children enjoyed tasting French food such as Croissant and French bread. They also had fun learning French with Mr Sullivan-Stanley.

Children also enjoyed exploring the outdoors collecting natural items for their dream catcher.

Steven Irwin

Kyler and Jackson wanted to show off their football trophies that they were awarded by the local teams that they play for. The boys showed Mrs Rimmer and we were all very proud of the great sportsmanship that they have shown outside of school.

School information

An update from the Treasurer of School Council

Ryan , our Head Boy , is pleased to share an update and provides us with the grand total of what we raised for Macmillan during our Cake Sale last week!

Thank you to everyone who provided delicious cakes to be sold! We had a lovely mixture of homemade creations and shop-bought treats which went down very well.

We hope you enjoyed this event and join us in celebrating our total. This money will go directly to the charity and be used to help people across the UK.

Academy Attendance Process

Our attendance target for each child is 96%, but we hope for 100%.

Pupils with good attendance records generally tend to keep up with their class work and their peers , they enjoy school more as they get the opportunity to socialise . A child who does not attend school regularly will be unlikely to keep up with the work. Poor attendance has a detrimental effect on a child's learning.

If your child is ill or must miss school, please contact us to notify us of the reason why. If no reason is provided then your child's absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Arriving late to school

If your child arrives late to school they don't have the social time to settle into class. It can be embarrassing for them and they may disrupt the learning of the rest of the class. Over time this would mean that learning time would be lost and this will build up to days of learning being lost over the course of the year.

Unsafe Scooting and Cycling

There are lots of children that are being unsafe in the car park and around the entrance. We ask that ALL children should be off their bikes and walking their bike or scooter through the school gate please to ensure that no accidents happen. We also have the minibus travelling through the carpark throughout the morning.

Great Big Green Week

Pupils at Peninsula East have been working hard to improve our outside areas in school and the local community.

In Nursery, pupils have been gardening and crafting using recycled materials. Our Reception pupils have been making bird feeders. In Year 1, children have made green hearts to decorate their outside area. Year 2 have doen some planting outside of their classroom and have upcycled plastic by creating recycled windchimes to decorate the trees. Our Year 3 classes worked together to weed the garden area outside the Marcus Rashford classroom. Year 4 walked to the local church to support with planting and creating a sensory garden. The church is open 2-4pm on Saturday if anyone would like to visit and see what they have created! Year 5 have created some seed bombs (to be used come spring and Year 6 have been developing the Year 6 Area on the playground.

We have been creating a display in school to celebrate the children’s hard work. We would like to encourage all of our families to take part in Green Week any way you can - maybe you could go on a walk in our local area over the weekend, spend some time working together in the garden or another activity of your choice? If you have any photos we could include of these activities as part of our display, please send them to the office or print them out and send them in.

Hello from the Team at wHoo Cares

As we all know, the upcoming winter months will prove challenging for many local residents. With the cost-of-living crisis across the UK resulting in unprecedented pressure on people, many will be forced to make tough decisions about eating, running essential home appliances (including medical equipment) and keeping their homes warm. As we did throughout the pandemic, wHoo Cares will be there to support all Hoo Peninsula residents (not only those registered with us) during this exceptionally difficult period but we need your help...

Our plans are still developing but our intention is to create at least one ‘warm hub’ where anyone who is cold can come to get warm, stay warm, share a little companionship and enjoy some hot refreshments. In addition, people attending will be able to access information about other support (e.g. financial) to which they may be entitled. Working in partnership with other businesses or organisations, our goal is to create multiple hubs throughout the peninsula.

Hubs will be open for 3 - 4 hours (probably early to late afternoon) at least one day a week (more if we are able) between November and February, possibly extending to March, depending on the weather.

For those residents who are unable to attend a warm hub in person but have a need, we will be delivering useful supplies directly to their homes during this period (similar in operation to our Community Van which operated during the pandemic).

We are looking to work with organisations and businesses so that we are able to serve as many people as possible. Therefore, we are asking the following:

  • Do you have a suitable venue which could be used as a hub (free of charge or at a greatly reduced rate)?

  • Could your business or organisation provide a financial or in-kind donation to help with our project including:

    • food and drink

    • blankets

    • thermos flasks

    • volunteers

    • specialist knowledge to support people in crisis

  • Are you able to volunteer an hour or more a week to help us run the hubs?

If you would like to find out more or be part of our Warm Hub project or are able to provide financial or in-kind donations, please contact us via email at community@whoocares.org.uk or call the office on 01634 272138.
