Beatrix Potter Class
Beatrix Potter Class have had a brilliant week of learning at school. We were really lucky that we were kindly invited to attend a circus workshop at Cross Park on Wednesday morning. The children were so excited to go, we discussed what the children know about the circus and whether they have been to see a circus before.
We all got on our hi-vis jackets and lined up very sensibly with our partners ready to walk to the circus. The children walked brilliantly down to Cross Park, on our way they enjoyed looking out for the circus tent.
During the morning the children had great fun learning to juggle first with one scarf and then with two. The children learned that they had to use “claw hands” to catch them easily. They were then given challenges to do with the scarves.
The children then learned how to spin plates using a plastic domed stick and a specially designed plate. The children were challenged to work with a friend to pass the plates on their sticks and then try to use their fingers. There was lots of laughter as we all tried to take part.
We all had such an amazing time, with lots of smiles and laughter throughout, we are very grateful to all the parents who came along to help and support the children. We would also like to say a big thank you to the parish council who made our special trip happen.
When we got back to class, the children were keen to write all about their favourite part of the circus workshop. They carefully thought about the sounds they could hear in the words that they wanted to write, as well as writing in full sentences using finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.
Great demonstrating circus skills Beatrix Potter Class.
Year 2
This term, Year 2 have been inquiring into how people use art to express emotions. This week, we read the books 'The Colour Monster' and 'The Day the Crayons Quit' and discussed the different feelings and emotions described by the characters. We have also focussed on African art. We looked at a range of patterns and designs and then created our own African art using bold colours and pictures.
Circus Pizazz
As a school we are so thankful to Allhallows Parish Council for organising circus workshops for us for a whole day. All classes from Reception class to Year 6 were able to spend some time in the circus tent learning different circus skills. All classes learnt to juggle and also balancing plastic plates on a long stick and trying to spin them and walk around with them too. All classes had lots of fun and were talking about it for the rest of the week.
We are so lucky that we have a great community to support our school and provide our children with enriching extra-curricular experiences and fantastic memories of their time at school.
Sports For Schools Sponsorship
Following our visit from Scottish slalom canoeist, Eilidh Gibson, and everyone working hard in their hit circuit, the children worked hard to complete some fitness activities and raise money. I am pleased to share that as a result of this, we have raised over £2000 to spend on sports and playground equipment for the school! We have used the money to refresh our stock of the essentials (such as basketballs and beanbags) and also been able to buy some more exciting surprise items too! This has been a great opportunity for all children to come together, get active and raise money! Thanks to all who took part and contributed to sponsorship.
