I am really impressed that in KS1, Greta Thunberg class has 100% this week, a huge well done to that class! In KS2, Marcus Rashford are the winning class for attendance, well done! It is shame that our attendance overall has dipped this week and is below National. It is really important that the children are all in school and don't miss out on their learning. They have missed so much during the past few years and so they really need to be in school to ensure that they don't have gaps in learning.

Our Wonderful Inquiry Work
Beatrix Potter Class
Beatrix Potter Class have been inquiring into what makes a good friend, using sand timers for sharing and practising taking turns and making new friends. We have shown great ‘caring’ about helping each other.
Using the story “On Sudden Hill” to be ‘reflective’ about this, we have been on listening walks and following instructions in phonics. We know we need to use listening ears to hear instructions and that this is the ‘principled’ thing to do.
In mathematics we have been practising sorting, comparing and finding where things belong when tidying up as a team.

Transdisciplinary Themes at PEPA
As part of the IB PYP, we have the six transdisciplinary themes that help our teachers to develop a programme of inquiry into these important concepts. Each term, we focus on one of these themes, this term is ‘Who We Are’. The transdisciplinary theme of ‘Who we are’ is explained using the following descriptor: Inquiry into the nature of the self, beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human. To ensure coverage, each year group is allocated part of the descriptor to focus on in more detail. By doing so, we can confidently ensure that each child will have explored these ideas - through age-appropriate and relevant inquiries - by the time they leave us in Year 6. For example, at PEPA this term, we have had inquiries ranging from understanding our role within our families, our friends and our communities in EYFS to identifying rights and responsibilities of an individual in Year 4. There are many advantages of learning through inquiry, one of these being that children can explore key themes and concepts through contemporary, engaging and transdisciplinary learning.
These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important to, all of us. The programme offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas, and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a Transdisciplinary framework that allows students to “step up” beyond the confines of learning within subject areas. The programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. This supports our overall goal of encouraging and nurturing our children to be global citizens that go on to make a difference in the World.
Below are the six transdisciplinary themes that we will cover throughout the year:
Who we are
Where we are in place and time
How we express ourselves
How the world works
How we organize ourselves
Sharing the planet
TA Appreciation Day - Thursday 16th September
Last week, we celebrated our TAs and all the hard-work that that do within the academy. Each class made a thank you card with messages for the TAs that they work with and hung up banners and balloons. TAs also received sweet treats in the staffroom and also had special crowns for the day. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank them all for all they contribute to our children's learning at PEPA and we really appreciate all that they do.
LATE ARRIVALS
We are currently having quite a few children arriving late to the Academy, please could you ensure that your children arrive on time. The gates close at 8.50am and if your child arrives after this time, then they will be marked as late. If your child accrues five late marks, you will be invited to talk to Mrs Dyke and Mrs Rimmer in regards to this.
We would also politely ask parents to ensure that they are not standing too far away from the school gates at the end of the day as staff are struggling to see parents when they are seeing them to go home. For safeguarding purposes, staff need to ensure that they have sent the children to an adult that they have seen and will be unable to let children go until they see an appropriate adult. Many thanks for your support on this.
Macmillan Cake Sale
We were overwhelmed with the generosity of our parents, carers and children in donating cakes for our Macmillan cake sale. Some of our Year 6 pupils sold these to the rest of the school at break time and then at home time too. We don't have a total yet for monies raised but as soon as we can, we will update you on a final amount. The children really enjoyed buying and eating the cakes and it was great to see that lots of families had also been busy baking cakes for the sale too. Thank you so much to all and we look forward to finding out how much we have raised for such a great charity.
IB Learner Attribute Competition winners
At the beginning of each new academic year each class learns about their class name. As part of this, they also design a poster aligned to their class person and also the IB learner attributes. These are then submitted and judged by Mrs Rimmer, Mrs Penning and Miss Theobald and one from each class is chosen to be displayed in our golden frames on our learner attribute display for the whole year. Please see below for the winning designs and children. Well done to all our children for taking part as it was very difficult to judge.
