This week, Roald Dahl class have been fantastic writers. We have created our own stories based on our class text Jim and the beanstalk. We have carefully planned our stories, thought about how we can change the characters and the setting, and re-written our own version of the story.
Greta Thunberg
This week, we have been working very hard in Maths with fractions. We have recognised and found a half, a quarter and a third. We have also been answering some tricky reasoning and problem solving questions, where we have to explain our answers. For our inquiry work, we have been writing stories with a vegetable as our main character. We used alliteration for some of our characters, such as Cally the carrot and Pete the parsnip, and tried to include some speech.
Beatrix Potter Class
Beatrix Potter Class have had a brilliant week of learning at school. This module's theme has been ‘How we organise ourselves’, where we have been exploring and inquiring into the world of jobs, what adults do in their jobs and how our behaviour impacts others. On Friday last week we were really lucky and had a special visit from a Trustee of Slough Fort, Catharina. The children listened carefully as Catharina explained about the history of Slough Fort and the Wheels of Time. She explained that she would love to see us visit and show us around. We are hoping to go and visit Slough Fort during next term. The children enjoyed asking questions about her job role and what she does at Slough Fort.
This week we have also been looking at colour mixing, and what two colours can be mixed together to make another colour. We looked at which colours we could use to make green and purple, the children then used hand prints to make these colours. We then looked at the artist Vincent Van Gogh, we learnt a little bit about him as an artist and looked at some of his art work. We then focused his art work ‘Sunflowers’, the children then used their colour mixing skills to create their own sunflower picture.
In phonics this week, we have nearly completed unit 2 sounds. At the beginning of the week we learnt the ‘le’ sound as in ‘kettle’ and ‘puddle’. The children have been brilliant at remembering the sounds that they have learnt, as well as learning new sounds and working on reading and writing words with these sounds in. it has been lovely to see the children using these sounds and words in their inquiry time too. We have also been looking at the tricky words ‘my’, ‘was’ and ‘all’.
Beatrix Potter Class, you have had a super week, well done!
SCHOOL INFORMATION
World Maths Day
23rd March 2022
This week, we celebrated World Maths Day by carrying out extra Maths activities in school. Some classes had extra time on TTRockstars, some played interactive Maths games on the chromebooks, including Subtraction Splat, and some classes had a go on Top Marks, Hit the Button game. It's great to see all children in the school enjoying Maths.
Visit from Southern Water
Children in EYFS through to Year 6 enjoyed a fun and interactive assembly led by Southern Water. The children learnt all about the impact of fat and unflushables on our water systems as well as the history of the sewers and how we can all help for the future.
The children all received a packet of 'Cheeky wipes', made from bamboo, that you can reuse. A GunkPot, for oils and fats to be poured into rather than into the sink and also a plug blocker so that larger bits of food do not go down the sink too. They also received a fun information booklet to reinforce the key messages of the assembly.
Only ever flush the three Ps - pee, poo and paper.

Monday the 21st of March was World Down Syndrome day. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The theme for this year was ‘what does inclusion mean?’.
What is Down syndrome?
Down syndrome (or Trisomy 21) is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition.
Recently I have met with quite a few parents who are trying to find ways to support their child with grief. This can be a hard topic to discuss with your child. I wanted to share the Winston’s wish website with our school community again - https://www.winstonswish.org/ - This website is packed full of resources and information to support you and your family through this difficult time. There are also some lovely activities that you can complete together https://www.winstonswish.org/activities/ which help you to discuss death and ways that you can remember your loved ones too. In school we are also in the process of purchasing books that we can loan out to families, if you would like to be put onto our wait list please let me know.
